ST. LOUIS (AP) -The new Busch Stadium is the leading contender to host baseball's All-Star game in 2009.
Baseball commissioner Bud Selig, speaking during Game 5 of the NL championship series on Tuesday night, was asked about the likelihood of the All-Star game being played in St. Louis in three years.

"I'd say very, very good," Selig said. "I like their chances a lot."

The new Busch Stadium opened in April, across the street from the old Busch, which hosted the All-Star game in 1966.

The 2007 game is scheduled for July 10 in San Francisco and the 2008 event is likely to be played at New York's Yankee Stadium, which is slated to be in its final season.

I went to shea once, it's still different from every other pakr, its the same on both sides :D it makes it look, (I hate to say it) clean or somthing! shea doesnt have anything below the lips, shea keeps it clean.

Will the new Mets Ballpark be called Shea? or Subway Park? or what?

Selig once again rewarded places for knocking down history and punishing places like Wrigley and Yankee and Shea and Dodger.... It should of been at old Busch....

They're already planning the 100 year anniversary of Fenway's opening in 2012 so I don't see Fenway going anywhere for a long time.

For a city that is so crazy about baseball, it is too bad they have to build a new ballpark and wait 40 years in order to stage this event.

By the way, the new Bush is much better than the one of the cookie cutter variety.

The last time the All Star game was in St. Louis was the year Busch Stadium opened. The game was still being played in the daytime and the new park was tranformed, on July 12, 1966, into the world's largest suana. They began carrying fans (an ironic term on this day) out in the second inning. The players were spending all their time between innings in the clubhouse and set a modern day record for swinging at the first pitch. They acted like they had 4 PM dates in East St. Louis. They went ten innings in 2:19. Casey Stengel, when asked what he thought of the new park said, "It seems to hold the heat real good."

I've gotta admit, I have about as much interest in the All-Star game as I do in an NFL pre-season game, despite Bud Selig's efforts to ruin the WS home field advantage for this piece of contrived crap. There was a time, before free agency and interleague play when there was a real pride among the players of each league, since the elite players rarely changed leagues, but that vanished a long time ago.

Good point. The All Star/World Series dereliction is all the more onerous when you consider that it was, essentially, foisted by the Fox network, looking to make the All Star Game more "meaningful" (read: generate something more than test pattern ratings). As far as the game itself, you need only realize that it is, essentially, overshadowed by the previous day's homerun hitting contest: a "watching ice melt" event which, ESPN, in an amazing display of unintended irony, continues to tout as an endorsement of the "health" of the game.
