We are sorry to hear about the loss of Eddie Pellagrini, SF, but we thank you for making us aware. The loss of Eddie now shrinks our roll call of living former Browns to only 62.

Eddie Pellagrini was born on March 18, 1918 in Boston, Massachusetts. He died two days ago on October 11, 2006 in Weymouth, Massachusetts at age 88.

Eddie Played For
5 Big League Clubs.

Pellagrini was basically a shortstop who scored an 8-season big league Post-WWII career as a utility fielder for the Red Sox (1946-47), Browns (1948-49), Phillies (1951), Reds (1952), and Pirates (1953-54). Eddie exceeded his career batting level with the Browns by hitting .238 with 4 HR's (20% of his career total) in his two St. Louis American League seasons. For his eight-year MLB career, Eddie batted only .228 with 20 home runs.

On November 17, 1947, Eddie Pellagrini was one of 6 players and $310,000 in cash that came to the Browns from the Red Sox in exchange for the two brightest stars on the St. Louis roster, shortstop Vern Stephens and pitcher Jack Kramer. Others joining Eddie as new Browns in that deal included Roy Partee, Jim Wilson, Al Widmar, Pete Layden, and Joe Ostrowski.

Goodbye, Eddie Pellagrini. Thanks for giving all you had to the St. Louis Browns and to baseball.
