View Full Version : Is there ANY chance of resigning Belliard?

Hey, this is just an open question to anyone who wants Belliard back after this year. Does anyone think the Indians have even a remote chance of resigning Ronnie Belliard? I've heard he's pretty tight with Pujols, but I'm still not sure. Of course he would solve the problem at 2nd base (when there shouldn't have been a problem in the 1st place), but I'm not sure he's a lock for next season. Anyone know anything I don't about this?

Personally, i hope he isn't signed - i'm probably wrong, but i think he is on the downside of his career - i don't think anyone will see the 05 Belliard again

Indians grab Barfield from Padres (http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061108&content_id=1737056&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb)
Great trade, I love it!
I'd love to see this line-up:
CF-Sizemore
2B-Barfield
C-Martinez
DH-Hafner
LF-Gonzalez(Luis)
1B-Garko
RF-Blake
SS-Peralta
3B-Marte

With the Barfield acquisition there is no need for Belliard now.

Thank goodness.
I wanted the Indians to get a long term solution at second, but i wasn't expecting anything like this.
And for such a minimal cost.
I can't wait to see what happens next.

My thoughts exactly. Let's hope Barfield wasn't a one-year wonder.

Hopefully Josh will fallow in the footsteps of his Father, Jessie Barfield .

Indians look primed to compete next year. I hope Peralta rebounds from his crappy year.

i am a big Indians fan, and even i wouldn't be so sure about that yet....
whether or not the Indians compete in 07 depends on how they solve the holes in the pen, and if they have to create another hole in order to do that....

so,now the trade for barfield eliminates Belliard from coming back? And, does the trading of Kauzmanoff and not resigning Boone pave the way for Andy Marte to play third next season? You guys have him right? To be honest, I'm asking these questions because I know next to nothing about what the Indians are doing as far as moves and stuff. Insight please.

Maybe the indians could work out a westbrook for mike gonzalez deal if your looking for a closer. Tom Gordon and Joe Borowski are available I believe...as FA closers. PS Thank you for Wickman.

Tom Gordon has two more years on his contract with the Phillies.

There is no need for Belliard with Barfield.
And yes, Marte figures to see the majority of the time at third.

Because of where i live i see as much, if not more, of the Pirates then the Indians, and i would love Gonzalez in Cleveland - i just can't see the Pirates making any deal to move him.

Didn't the Cardinals just sign a new second baseman anyhow? (Well not completely new - its Kennedy who they traded to the Angels as part of the Jim Edmonds deal?) Right now Ronnie Belliard is looking for a job.

Has anything heard any rumors about Belliard? I don't want, nor do I think, the Tribe's going after him, but I just wonder where he'll play in 2007.

I don't want, nor do I think, the Tribe's going after him, but I just wonder where he'll play in 2007.The Nationals signed Belliard to a minor league deal for 750,000. He had a couple of ABs in yesterday's game against the Orioles. I look for him to start at 2B but it depends on his performance during the remainder of ST I suppose.
