This came as quite a shocker to me. What about the rest of you?
The only redeeming factor for the '06 Astros was the pitching. Why "can" the pitching coach?
I really don't understand management sometimes.

There could be a very viable reason why Hickey isn't going to be back. But the bottom line is the front office has done a very, very poor job handling the assistant coaches.

Most likely Garner wanted him out for some reason.

Word here is he got the axe because Buchholz, Hirsh, Wandy and some of the other supposed gems didn't progress enough to suit management.

Interesting, since he didn't even have a full season this year to work with any of those pitchers. Blaming Hickey for their lack of development is ridiculous. But, hey, somebody had to be the scapegoat, and I guess Hickey drew the short straw.

Didn't Hickey have some of them in the minors? Best pitching coach they had, Mike Maddux, they let get away, now I'm hearing Happy Hooten is on the short list for the job...You remember Happy, don't you? He was fired before Hickey was hired...

I'm not sure if this makes sense but Clemens as the possible pitching coach though it might be hard to believe i highly doubt at least this time iin his life he wants to commit this much time to the team when he played for a half of the season last year.I see him as a coach in the future but not any time soon.

Clemens could be a sort of roving instructor, but I think it's more likely that he'll be part of the ownership group than a full-time pitching coach. Hell, he's already part of Nolan Ryan's group that operates Houston's top minor league clubs.

Hickey has been named pitching coach of the Devil Rays. He replaces Mike Butcher, who accepted a similar position with the Angels.
