Hello,

I am looking for information on my late grandfather. He was a pitcher in the the farm system of the St Louis Browns. I am not sure how far he got in the leagues. I think he pitched around 1937-1941. I know at least one of these years, the story goes that he brought back an engagement ring for my grandmother in 1939 from an away game. His full name is Kenneth Tweed Shellard, and he usually went by Ken Shellard. If you have any information it would be greatly appreciated (actual years played, what team, and stats would be wonderful, or point me in the right direction for my search). Thanks!

Steve Tuttle

I found a couple of articles:

1. He didn't fare well in this game for Kingsport against Johnson City in 1938, but is called one of the top two hurlers for the team by the paper. (Also an interesting article on the Joe Louis-Max Schmelling fight)

2. Again from 1938, he pitched in an inning of relief after a brawl. There's also a picture of a Ken Shellard, based on a bet made on the Louis-Schmelling fight, but not sure if it's the same Shellard as the pitcher (it's not mentioned to be the baseball player)

3. No article, but a team picture.

That's all I could find between 1937-41.
