being that some schedules are starting to come out, i have begun to plan my trip for 2007.

i plan on attending a game @ SD, LAD, OAK, & SF.

i know where i want to stay in SD, but i am having difficulty finding a good hotel in LA. i want to see all the major sights, because i have never been, i plan on going to disneyland, venice beach, walk of fame, manns chinese theatre, etc.

does anyone have any good hotel experiences in LA or any recommendations?

i was beginning to look in anaheim for a cheaper hotel, is that good?....is it too far/long to drive into downtown LA to see some sights?

any suggestions for SF will also be greatly appreciated.

i am trying to make this an affordable trip, because i plan on spending 10 days in CALI

HELP!
thanks

while in the city checkin' out the giants:
what day do you arrive? from where? what time?
what day do you leave? to where? what time?
will you have a car?
will your stay be during the yankee visit? close to the all-star game?

these'll dictate whether you want to/are able to stay closer to the airport or to the ballyard.

i am just looking for a good affordable hotel, in a safe area, to see all the sights SF has to offer. i.e. alcatraz, fisherman's wharf, golde gate park, lombard street, etc. this will be my first time in SF as well as LA

Sorry I don't have any advice, but wanted to ask- Can I come? ;)

Its a dream trip for me.

We are looking at a driving trip next year that will take us to Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincy and Philly. We shall see what happens.

bigworm_122: i plan on arriving on sat july 21...

i suggest that you stay within walking distance of the ballyard. there are lots of places in that area, a safe place known as south beach.

alcatraz and other bay cruises depart from the wharf (flat) walking distance minutes away from the ballyard. the wharf is just down the block. also, walk up the 460-odd filbert street steps to coit tower while yer in the area. it's a word-of-mouth treasure that's well worth it.

the car'll be good for golden gate park, lombard street, palace of fine arts, the haight, etc.

KarenWell, I hit Cleveland every year, but I'm doing Philly this year. You should also go to Baltimore & DC too like I am

Been to Philly several times already. Nice ballpark. Went to Baltimore a few years ago, loved it. Hoefully trying to go to DC next year also on a weekend trip. We have a 6 month old and traveling is a little difficult. We plan on taking him to DC with us, but hopefully G-ma can watch him for the longer trip to the others.

Have a great time on your trip!

1) You might want to get there early, although all you can do is sit because the GATES to the parking lot are closed
2) Try to e-mail the Dodgers ahead of time and find out which gate you're supposed to enter so you don't have to stand in line AGAIN
3) Do NOT take a full-size backpack into the stadium
4) If you want to go early to batting practice or walk around the stadium, do NOT buy a bleacher seat

NO, I'm NOT bitter or anything :grouchy  :laugh

Probably not. We have friends that live near Detroit and will probably hold off on that stadium until we visit them one day. We shall see.

When you are on your way from LA to SF, visit the Monterrey Bay Aquarium. It is a must see.

If you are in SF and visit Fisherman's wharf, from there it is not far to the cable car station (about 5-10 minutes walk). You may stand in line but it is worth it.

Friday night at third street in Sta Monica is a nice experience as well.

Have fun.

I caught a Giants game there last year. I went on priceline and got a great 4 star hotel (Renaissance Grand Hotel)on the top of California street (which is on the Trolley Line and next to Chinatown) for about $65 a night. I looked at the regular booking websites and I could nto find anything close to downtown for anythig less than $180 a night. The literature in the door placed it at 450-2000 a night so I think i got a good deal LOL It is a 5 minute Trolley ride to the Wharf and alcatrz and a $10 cab ride to the ballpark

No you're not bitter. :laugh

What gate you enter isn't rocket science and you don't need to email the Dodgers. If you have a Field level ticket you enter the field level gates, loge ticket=loge gates; Reserved=reserved gates; top deck=top deck gate. It's pretty simple.

You CAN take a backpack in (14 in. or smaller) as well as cokes, juce or water (in 1 liter or smaller unopened plastic bottles) and unopened food (fast food, sandwiches, chips etc).

Don't scare the guy. :laugh

As far as theme parks, I still don't understand visiting a new city and spending most of your time inside a theme park. :noidea You should see the CITY, not it's fake tourist trappings. Universal is ok, but stay away from CityWalk (just an overpriced outdoor tourist mall).

Taking the 5 is about 6 hours and you'll see nothing but farm land, manure piles and cows--pretty boring. Taking PCH is about 12 hours, but breathtaking coastal scenery.

You could also take highway 101. It's a better drive than 5 but not as good as the PCH (Highway 1). 101 and 1 are usually close together so you coul take 1 half the way and 101 the other way. There's a town called San Luis Obispo (basically my home town) that's about half way.

Regardless, don't take the 5, it's not worth the time you'll save. If you have to drive back to LA (I think you said you don't) then I'd take the 5. The first time take either 101 or 1.
