We've got the Twinkies for the first round. Hate to admit it, but their home field advantage is a little intimidating. Zito has the ball for game one.

All we've got to do is win game one, and Oakland should be fine.

That's a mighty big IF! The Twins should have no problem with a team that hits even less than they do.

Tall order, if ya ask me.

But Good Luck beating Johan! :D

When Johan Santana wins, Oakland will be in a must win Game 2 with Esteban Loiza heading out to the mound. Ouch. I know he's been good lately, but I wouldn't want to put all my eggs in Loiza's basket. How are they not starting Blanton in Game 2???

I think this will definetly be a good game!

Zito vs. Santana will be a great pitching duel :), is this going to be on espn? Because where i am we don't see Twins games unless they are on espn...

We're going with experience over youth.

A's fans should be proud this team is in the pl'offs again for the 5th time in 7yrs. However, we should also be concerned that our strong starting pitching hasn't been as dominant as it's been in August.

A's starters went just 8-9 with a 6.08 ERA in their last 26 games.

Although the playoffs are one big crapshoot - all that matters is what have you done for me lately? ...and the A's haven't been playing very well against playoff pitching as evident in the last 7 games versus Anaheim, argueably the best pitching staff in baseball.

Zito's been steady and in control.
Haren & Loaiza have both been inconsistant.
Harden got rocked in his last outing.

So there's a lot to be concerned about. With all that said, the A's should take this series in 4 games, but if it goes 5, the edge goes to the Twinks.

ya gotta believe guys.

I'll be watching the tube at 1pm ET tomorrow.

To me, we HAVE to win one of these first 2 games. I don't want to have to go back to Minnesota and face Santana again.

ouch, the A's fans in this thread are starting to sound like Tony Gwynn and Jeff Passan on yahoo today. They both picked the Twins over the A's to win the series.

We'll prove them wrong. If we can get a W off Johan in game 1 the rest of the series will be cake. I say we win it in 4.

I wanna say that too, but remember 2000-2003 when we won the first 2 games of each ALDS and them lost 3 in a row. The A's have been 0-12 in series clinching games since 2000.

But this is a new A's team and that will all change.

Correction, don't make it worse than it already is. We're 0-9 in series clinching gms since 2000.

Kotsay and Kendall are both struggling in their AB's against Santana.

Yeah, let's keep it that way. Zito seemed to have settled down now after BB the 1st batter.

Man, that was the 1st hit of the game for the Twins.

And Zito's not even at his best.

I'm pretty surprised by the turn of events here.
This maybe a tough series! I never expected to see Johann leaving the game without a lead.

Well done, A's. It's hard to beat Johan, but thanks to the Big Hurt (war eagle) and some bad hitting by the Twins they managed to do it. If they win game two this series is over. I think the pitching matchup is pretty even, but experience has to go to Loaiza.

This site sucks..btw. you have to keep logging in every other minute... terrible.

Anyway, let's not discount Zito's gem. Dude brought his A game today. He looked a little shaky in spots walking some batters and didn't have strong control of his breaking ball. Twins hitters were too agressive and that helped out.

Overall, great effort. The only gaffe was Bradley losing the ball in the lights. :clapping

Byrnes and Giambi I can agree with, Tejada hasn't really done much *on the field* that we should be pissed about...

2003 playoffs vs. Bosux; he stopped running to home plate to argue a call with the umpire at 3B. I know everyone loves Tejada but come on, that was a bone headed play that cost us an out and a run and eventually the series.

Yeah. Bradley threw a towel that accidentally hit a cup of coffee that was sitting above the bench on which Loaiza was sitting. The cup fell off and landed on Esteban, so he had to go change his shirt. It was a complete accident and no big deal, but Perry got up in Bradley's face about it.

I noticed in the 9th inning Estaban and Milton were sitting and joking around... they'll probably have a few beers on the plane flight home and hopefully Estaban will stay out of his Ferrari and take a cab home when they land....
