I think that Astros and Reds fans would want the Cards to collapse so that our teams could possible win the NL Central.

Better pitching than who? Padres have almost 1/2 run better team ERA than the Dodgers, better starting ERA, and about a run better bullpen ERA. The Dodgers bullpen has been downright terrible lately.

This is a few days late, but did anyone watch that CRAAAZY Phillies/Nats game WED? That was some of the worst baseball I've seen in a while. Seemed the Phillies WANTED to lose, they sure gave the Nats every possible chance.
But, good ol Jimmy finally decided it was time to go home, and hit a 2 run triple to give them just enough to win...the Phils still ended up letting the Nats load the bases with 0 outs...barely hung on for a one run win. It was just nuts.
Go Philly!

I agree. The Dodger bullpen is solid from innings 8-9, in fact Takashi Saito is having a good a year as Gagne's 2004 season - just look at the stats.
However the middle relief is shakey to put it nicely. Atrocious is more accurate. And since the Dodgers have only one single stinkin CG all year.... :(

Beimel and Hoss Broxton are more than adequate to set up Sammy. It's innings 6-8 that are killing us.

if you're talking about who i think you're talking about, i'm sorry but they got eliminated this afternoon with the cards win over the brewers. and the phillies just got eliminated a few minutes ago with the padres win over the dbacks (combined with a dodger victory earlier this afternoon). a houston loss tonight and the nl playoffs are set.

Everything has been decided but the matchups
The 4 NL teams will be the Mets, the Cardinals, the Padres and the Dodgers with the Mets with homefield advantage and the Padres and Dodgers battling it out for the second best record and a matchup with the Cardinals.
The 4 AL teams will be the Yankees, the Twins, the Tigers and the A's with the Yankees with homefield advantage and the Twins and the Tigers battling it out for the second best record and a matchup with the A's. The Tigers currently have a half game lead and can clinch with a win tonight.

don't tell that to the astros. if houston wins out and the cards lose tomorrow and lose the make up game with the giants, then the cards and astros both finish 83-79 and have to play tuesday in houston.

Anybody notice who will probably be pitching against each other Thursday if the Mets play the Dodgers (Padres win and/or Dodger loss or both victorious on Sunday) in the first round?
Two long-time ex-teamates with over 620 combined victories. Nice storyline!

Twins win their division and Tigers win the WC. Cardinals clinch their division.
AL
Yankees-Tigers
Twins-Athletics
NL
Mets-Padres/Dodgers
Cardinals-Padres/Dodgers
The Padres have a 5 run lead in the 7th and should win their game and the Dodgers are playing a close game so it will likely come down to the Dodgers game to decide who will win the NL WC and the NL West

Not quite accurate wording. If the Dodgers and Padres both win today they will share the division championship. The Dodgers will take the "wild card" slot in the playoffs because of their record against San Diego, but the Dodgers will still be the 2006 NL West champs along with San Diego.

So the Dodgers wouldn't be hoisting a flag next year that said, "2006 Wild Card"? They would actually be allowed to have a NL West 2006 Champions flag? Are you certain?

First of all, the Dodgers don't hoist "wild card" flags. Those are for sissy teams that have no history of winning. The Dodgers have "won the wild card" before in the 90s and never made a big deal about it.
The Dodgers are co-division champs, yes, I'm sure. :)

Well, I'm not as mad now (even though the Diamondbacks are throwing this game). I did not know that the Dodgers won the wild card in '96. I guess I was just stupid.

yeah, the cards did it a few years ago when they tied houston for the division, lost the tiebreaker, and ended up as a wildcard team. they counted it as a division championship. and i think somebody posted that it happened with the yanks/red sox recently. you guys can raise your division championship pennant.

Ok, now I'm pissed. A blown call gives the NL West berth to the Padres! The Diamondbacks finally look like they were going to put something together, and the umpires initially call a runner safe, then say he was out because it was a force play, and yet Khalil Greene's foot WASN'T ON THE BAG! All of us in Bumtown would like to thank the idiot officials for making sure we didn't get our due. Man, I hope we run the playoffs.
