Congratulations to Tim Salmon on his career

As a lot of Angels fans should know, Tim Salmon will retire after this season. Thanks for all the memories with the California/Anaheim/Los Angeles Angels that we recognize you with. The Angels saw you win 1993 American Rookie of the Year, the 2002 World Series. Fespite all the injuries "Mr. Angel" endured in his career, especially one that caused him to miss the 2005 season, he should be remembered for his career.

If it weren't for him in 2002, the Anaheim Angels (at the time) would have never made it to the Fall Classic. In addition, he hit .346 during their first World Series which they won. Goodbye and farewell, Kingfisher. :waving

Tim Salmon was a class act from day one. Thank you for everything you brought to the organization. Your dedication and conduct both on the field and off was an inspiration to us all. We will miss you Sockeye!

I remember the fuss here in SoCal when Salmon won the ROY award. Had it not been for the injuries, he probably had a shot at the HOF.

My first thought upon reading that was to disagree with you. But looking it over I could see that point of view. I still don't think he was on the path, a right fielder with those kind of numbers in this day and age isn't likely to make it. Even if he had stayed healthy. He would have had to elevate his game even more then he did at his peak to be considered. Heck Bobby Abreu has been doing what I think you think Tim Salmon could have done, for 9 years now and he doesn't really have a shot at the hall. Heck (again) he like Salmon didn't get an all-star nod for a very long time.

But it was a surprise to me to look back and see how good he was in the mid 90's.

I don't see him getting into the Hall either, but he is easily one of the top 5-10 players in club history. There is a site out there (don't know how to find it again) that rated him #1 out of the 100 greatest Angels of all time (a list that included not just players). Being an Angel fan since the 60s, I remember what Jim Fregosi meant to this organization during the first 11 years of this franchise, and because of that I consider him Mr. Angel. Nolan Ryan is probably the most talented player the club ever had, but he went into the Hall of Fame as a Ranger . But these players left the Angels long ago, and many consider Salmon the #1 Angel of all time.

He may not make it to the baseball Hall of Fame, but he will undoubtfully make it to the LA Angels/team Hall of Fame. Injuries pecked at his later years, and he did the right thing to retire now and also spend his career on one team.
