Lets say the Yankees and Tigers/Twins tie for the best record. How is the tiebreaking determined to see who has home field advantage in the ALCS if both division winners meet each other. Also how would it work if all three teams tied.

Although this situation is less likely what if Oakland, the central winner, and the Yankees all tied for the best record. How would the homefield advantages be determined for both the ALDS and the ALCS.

Also does the wildcard winner automatically not get home field advantage in the ALCS even if they had the same regular season record as the team they are going to face in the ALCS given they are not in the same division and that the wild card winner would of beaten them in a home field advantage comparison if they both had been division winners.

A little complicated, but explainable. And If this is wrong, please correct.

First. The regular season records are against each other are used. i.e. If Team A is 7-5 against Team B, Team A gets HFA.

Second. If they're still tied(6-6), then it's most runs scored versus whichever teams are involved. i.e. If Team A has scored 100 runs versus Team B scoring 99, Team A gets the nod.

Third. If it's still tied, and this is mighty doubtful, then they go to overall runs scored.

Fourth. Very highly improbable. The last resort is Overall runs against.

The same system is applied to a 3-team W/L tie. The W/L records of all three teams against the same three teams is applied first.

As far as I know, the WC winner NEVER gets HFA.
