Welcome to the Baseball Fever Hall of Fame

The Baseball Fever Hall of Fame (BBFHoF) was established to honor the greatest players and contributors in baseball history. We seek to match our wits against those of the National Hall of Fame in Cooperstown by comparing and contrasting our selections to their own. Our elections are held monthly.

All voters are welcome, however, prospective voters should first read our rules (in this post) and must agree to observe them.

The idea of this project has always been that each member will cast his or her own individual ballot without creating voting blocs a la "Survivor". If I become aware of violations of this concept, they will be dealt with. Toward that end, if there is more than one vote being cast from any one computer or IP, it must be cleared in advance, or only the first vote will be counted. I only anticipate exceptions for family members living in the same home, like the Chancellor and the Wizard, but I will entertain requests on other bases. Please note that I and the other mods who participate in the project have the capability of determining the IP from which posts come, and I for one intend to monitor same.

There are two elections, one for players who have been retired for a full season and one for contributors to the game, who are either retired or at least 60 years of age. Ballots must be posted in the monthly voting thread by the 25th of the month and adhere to the rules below in order to be counted. Also, I reserve the right to reject ballots which do not alphabetize the listing of candidates. The process of counting the votes is hard enough, and my spreadsheet is set up to take advantage of the tradition of alphabetized ballots..

Players from and contributors to the major, negro and japanese leagues are eligible for consideration. For clarity, I consider the following leagues part of the "negro leagues": the US American Leagues, Cuban Winter Leauge to 1950, Mexican League to 1950, Puerto Rican Winter League to 1950, the 1937 Dominican League and the California Winter League. Once inducted as either a player or contributor, an individual is no longer eligible for consideration in the other capacity. Players are to be considered based on their performance and its impact on their teams. Contributors are to be considered for the quality and impact of their contribution to their teams and/or the sport in general. (This may include a contributor's playing career.)

A Players Ballot should list the 25 most deserving candidates (until we have elected at least 90% of the number of players in Cooperstown.) A Contributors Ballot should list up to the 15 most deserving candidates. When shorter ballots are permitted, the minimum number of candidates will be the number which, when added to the number elected to the BBF HOF brings us equal to the to the number of contributors or players (depending on the category in question). When new minimum vote numbers apply, they will be posted. When we get to the point where the minimum vote is zero (as with the contributor ballot), a voter may submit a ballot indicating " I do not believe there are any qualified (player/contributor) candidates".

We have now reached the point where a ballot of as few as zero (0) names is acceptable on the contributor side.

Please note that once a person is elected either as a contributor or as a player, he is no longer eligible to receive votes in either category.

At the conclusion of each election (11:59:59 PM Eastern US time on the 25th unless otherwise notified by post of jalbright), the votes will be tabulated and any candidate named on the greater of nine or 75% or more of the valid ballots in a given category (player or contributor) will be inducted that month.

You are allowed to change your ballot at any time the ballot is open. However, I request that you PM me (jalbright) to ensure that I am aware of the change. It would be most helpful if you could tell me who was added and/or subtracted from your ballot. I cannot agree to be responsible for monitoring the thread for any changes voters might make. If I catch them, fine, but if I don't and am not notified, the official count will be what I have been notified of, not what is on the thread.

Also, it is permissible to vote for a candidate on both the contributor and player lists

Media
Harry Caray Though his status as a Chicago baseball mainstay is important, lots of announcers have that qualification and I'm not voting for them. What sets Harry apart in my mind is his role in popularizing the use of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" for the seventh inning stretch. Put the two together, and I think he qualifies.

Buck Canel announced 42 World Series to the Latin American audience via the Cabalgata Deportivo Gillette, and was the first Spanish-language broadcaster to win the Frick Award

Success points are a Bill James creation. The numbers given are not discounted in any way, and are from a system I modeled on James' system, but isn't identical to it.

Kazuto Tsuruoka Manager's Success Points: 70
He is Japan's winningest manager, with 1807 regular season victories to his credit as well as a .609 winning percentage. His teams were over .500 in 21 of the 23 seasons he managed, and he won 11 pennants. In those 11 pennants was a stretch of 4 pennants in five years and another stretch of 4 pennants in six years.

Shigeru Mizuhara Manager's Success Points: 62
He won eight pennants in nine years from 1951 to 1959 for the Yomiuri Giants. He also won four Japan Series in the period 1951 to 1955 and won a pennant for the Flyers.

Dan Okrent Developer of Rotisserie Baseball and also played a large role iin bringing Bill James to the attention of a national audience. Actually, though, he's not eligible for the BBF HOF until April 2008 unless he dies or retires before then.

Bob Davids the driving force behind the founding of SABR

Charles A. Leavitt, Jr. The architect fot the first concrete and steel ballpark, Forbes Field. After seeing it, every team wanted one for itself.

Joe Spear Headed the Camden Yards project. Combined the old style park charm with modern amenities. Every team wanted a park like it, spawning the recent park building surge. However, he won't be eligible for the BBF HOF until 2013 unless he dies or retires before then.

Ted Giannoulas, aka the San Diego Chicken There were baseball clowns before him, but he's the one who popularized the mascot/clown role so that everybody has one. I note his birthdate is 1953, so he's ineligible for the BBF HOF until 2013 unless he dies or retires first.

He established the Yomiuri club as a powerhouse, winning pennants in every season from the 1938 Fall season through 1943.

Osamu Mihara Manager's Success Points: 44
He won pennants as a manager for three different franchises, most notably the Lion dynasty he presided over. He won 4 Japan Series in a stretch of five years.

Masaaki Mori Manager's Success Points: 42
He won 7 pennants in 8 years, and six Japan Series in seven years within that stretch.

Yukio Nishimoto Manager's Success Points: 43
He won pennants for three franchises and had a stretch of five pennants in six years. Unfortunately, though he led eight teams to the Japan Series, he never grabbed the brass ring, five of the losses coming to Kawakami's "V-9" Giants.
