The past few weeks Derosa has had a lot of playing time at 3rd base. I have heard a lot of rumors the past few years about a Blalock trade. I think it will happen this off season. If so it looks like Derosa could be the 3rd baseman next year. I would think the rangers will be looking at a pitcher to trade Blalock for. but to get a pitcher worth a trade like this we may have to add some of our young guys in the deal.

I am sure there is still a lot that needs happen before the rangers get to this point. resignings, free agents, etc. it should be interesting.

What do you think?

Maybe Texas can get Chris Young back...well thats more hope than reality... but the Padres are in need of a solid 3Bman, and Linebrink would be a nice arm out of the pen.

To get anything of real value for Blalock you are going to have to catch the other GM on a bad day.

Towers has plenty of those.

I hated to see Chris Young go in the first place. not to say it was a total bad trade but there were a few other pitchers I would have rather seen in the deal then Young.
I would like that trade and I'm sure Blalock would be ok with it since its his hometown team. but i'm not sure that deal would ever get done.

I might also like a big trade to get Young and linebrink in the same deal but i,m not sure I would go Blalock for Linebrink on an even trade.
nothing against linebrink. I just think there may be a few other area's the rangers need to worry about first. thats just my thoughts. [ which more times then not don't count for much.]

thanks.

Well any rangers fan would definately want linebrink AND young... But i dont think the Padres would take a Blalock-Young deal straight up.

There is a little rumor floating around that hank "I am way overrated" blalock might be traded either the Royals, rockies or pirates for pitching prospects. This will only work if JD resigns derosa.

Why are the Royals in the rumor?? They already have Mark Teahen (who outhit Blalock a ton this year) and the minor league player of the year, 3B Alex Gordon, coming for next year??

So what has happened to Hank Blalock? :noidea As a 23-24 year old he looked like a young superstar in the making. But his develoment as hitter has totally stagnated. He had a very poor 2006 season. :o

Ever since his first full season, hes been on the decline. Although not many people were complaining about him last year, and his numbers aren't all that different, just a little less power.

This is an article that could answer you question :

Blalock to sit against lefties
The Texas Rangers are planning on keeping Blalock out of the lineup against lefties; with the acquisition of Nelson Cruz, the Rangers will move Mark DeRosa to third when facing a left handed pitcher; Blalock is hitting just .202 against southpaws this year and has been rumored to be on the move - from Mobile ESPN

there's been some interest in the Tigers obtaining him...but the deal depends
on what Texas will take for him...we do have several players that the Rangers could use....if the right deal can be put together..it could happen.if not,
TEXAS will try and shop him elsewhere:rolleyes:

Well I hated to see Young AND Drese go because they both had pretty strong 2005 seasons for us, but if we trade blalock away for some pitching prospects, i will be VERY VERY

VERY

dissapointed. I am tired of the rangers going for young pitchers who have the POTENTIAL to be great. I want a top starter. We brought in Millwood and he has not been what was expected. The Rangers need a top notch veteran SP and if they trade away blalock for some young so-called prospect, ill be more frustrated than i am right now.:grouchy :grouchy

We brought in Millwood and he has not been what was expected.

What were you expecting?

He's a 10 year veteran. This was, statistically, his fourth best season. He threw more than 200 innings, posted a 106 ERA+, and won 16 games. Basically, he did exactly what should have been reasonably expected of him.

I think the problem is that the Rangers gave ace money to a pitcher who really wasn't an ace. Still, he's a valuable pitcher.

They're not going to get a top notch veteran pitcher for Blalock. Developing prospects is their best chance at accumulating cheap, high-quality pitching. With Eric Hurley and the DVD trio, they appear to be making progress in that department.

The Blalock trade would be a big risk because the Phillies are rumored to make a big push for DeRosa and who would replace Blalock at 3rd if DeRosa leaves ???
The only sure thing I know is that if the Rangers deal Blalock, it'll be for Pitching !!!

The Tigers don't need Blalock anymore because they acquired the Sheff .
