It is the responsibility of those who rely on statistical data to separate home runs hit against opposite league pitchers in opposite league parks.

Barry has broken Henry's National League career home run record but some of Barry's blasts were against AL pitchers in AL parks.

This means that when the media "experts" tell us that Barry has hit the most career NL home runs, it is not true unless none was hit against an AL pitcher in an AL park.

How can true sabremetricians accept the error present when one states that Barry has hit 734 NL home runs?

Because sabermetrics is not a religion, because baseball is not life and death. He is the national leaguer with the most home runs. It isn't a big deal.

A cop out? A real answer?

He isn't asking what is 2+2 he is asking for people's opinions.

He asked in case you missed it
How can true sabremetricians accept the error present when one states that Barry has hit 734 NL home runs?

First off the question is already manipulative, it is already forcing people to choose a side. Us or them, those who do not agree are beneath the status of sebermetrician.

So you want a real answer. Okay fine. Barry Bonds is a national leaguer. Barry Bonds home runs puts runs on the board for a national league team. The wins and losses that his team suffer and enjoy count in standings for the NL. MLB has already decided for purposes of record keeping that the league you belong to is what counts not who you play.

My opinion? It is a number, it is a piece of data. Worrying about which pitcher and which park just isn't worth it.

Ubi is right this is one of the more stupid quibble's brought up on this site. Are you going to take out hits acquired during those games for the purpose of figuring out the league batting champion? Adjust pitcher's wins and ERA? Does everybody get an asterisk? Or do you just worry about Bonds because you don't like him?

to disallow homers by players hittin' 'em out against the other league is kinda like not allowing designated hitter numbers to stand.

Ubi's answer is right. Lou and Evan have a future as talking heads.
