Terry:

According to information that is available on the The Professional Baseball Player Database, Version 6.0, by OLD-TIME DATA, Inc., and with further ellaboration from "The Encyclopedia of Minor League Baseball," a player identified only as "Rod Timm" played for an apparently limited amount of time with the Newark (Ohio) Moundsmen of the Class D Ohio State League in 1946.

The Newark, Ohio team was a farm club of the St. Louis Browns and this man, Rod Timm, had to be your father.

Wish I had more to report, Terry, but as best I can tell, that short 1946 stint with Newark was your dad's only stop in professional baseball. He was a pitcher in that Ohio State League year, but his 0-0 W-L record and his 0.00 ERA tell us that he probably wasn't there for any great length of time. He must've gotten somebody out without allowing an earned run or he wouldn't have an ERA of 0.00. If that little Ohio town has newspaper records, perhaps you could find someone there to help you come up with a box score that showed your dad's appearance.

The fact to hold onto is that your dad was good enough to get there, and, indeed, he was playing professional baseball in 1946, just as he told you. You should be very proud of him for the fact that he both got there to the professional level of play and that he told you the unenlarged truth about his minor league experience. Among all the other personal reasons I'm sure you have for loving your dad, those reasons for caring about him also stand out as important to all of us here. - Rod Timm was once a minor league player in the Browns system who, years later, gave his children an honest general reporting on his professional baseball experience. Whether this information came to you from your dad or through your mom, the general facts you did receive were true.

Best to you and yours!
