View Full Version : Has Zito made his last start for the A's?

I'm a Dodger fan, but as a Bay Area native, I also love the Oakland A's. What a great team, and I do mean TEAM! These guys have arguably lost as much, if not more talent than even Seattle over the past few years. Canseco, McGwire, Tejada, Hudson, Mulder, et al, and they have a much smaller budget than many teams, yet they still manage to keep on winning, year in, year out, thanks to great teamwork and the marvelous presence of GM Billy Beane. In some ways, I contrast the A's to the Olympic basketball teams the USA puts up these days. Great players, but no teamwork, thus, no gold medal.

Barry Zito is an institution here, and he may possibly have pitched his last game in Oakland as an A's starter, and what a great career it has been, thus far! I sure hope he gets re-signed, but the A's just may not have the money.

Thanks for a GREAT ride, Barry! Your talent, personality and love for Oakland will be sorely missed, should you leave us....:ughh

Yes, he will pitch in the postseason. The heading on my post was a bit misleading from what I really meant, which I did espouse in the body of my text, and that is that Zito may have made his last start IN OAKLAND. Since both the Tigers and Yankees have more wins thus far than the A's, it's very possible, if not probable, that Zito will start the opening game in either Detroit or NY, so who knows if he will get a chance to pitch at home again? That's the point I was trying to make.

One thing is certain, if he does get an opportunity to pitch again at McAfee, he will get an ovation like he's never heard before!

I'd like to see Zito in AAA for the Mets before he plays in the Majors, just to see if he still has it. If he still has it, I'd love him on the Mets

I think his postseason performance will let all up us know if he still has it

Still has it? Huh? Mets fans should look at their own rotation before they start saying they need to see him in AAA first... El Duque and Traschel?? Zito is easily better than both of them

Zito is among the best pitchers in the game today.

Don't put Zito in a Mets uniform just yet, you guys are forgetting another New York team that will usually spend big on free agents.

Maybe he's from Norfolk and wants to see Zito pitch in person...

I was thinking the same thing... Anyway, I believe his days in Oakland are numbered. I'm hoping we'll be able to get a little compensation for him!

Zito isn't old enough to be a Yank. Don't they collect SP's that are 35+ and are injury prone?

You must be older than 30 to play for the Yankees, I read it... from a book!

I dunno about among the best, but he is in the better half of them... he is a nice #2 or #3 starter, he is the A's #3 starter right now behind Haren and Harden

?????

Haren's ERA is 4.11
Zito's is 3.89
Harden's is 3.79, although only in 38 innings.

Zito has had a better season than any A's starter, and started at opening day this year, a role usually reserved for the ace of the staff.

Also, anyone with an ERA under 4 in the AL is having a pretty good year.

I dont see how he is possibly the A's #3 starter.

Cmon now, you spurt out all these advanced stats when talking about fielding, then you use ERA for this?

Zito's WHIP is 1.40... hardly that of an ace or #2 starter.... infact none of his stats scream ACE, maybe 16 wins... but wins arent really controlled by pitchers, especially in the AL where the pitchers do not bat

If Harden was healthy he'd easily be the ace, and Haren is putting up better #s than Zito
