I am on a bit of a search. I just joined an adult baseball league and am looking for a bat. My league does not require BESR certified bats, but does require -3 criteria. I remember back in the 90s that bats had major pop in the 'gorilla ball' era. Looking for your recommendation on the best aluminum bats ever made.

Bats back in the 90s didn't need to meet the -3 criterion, so the best bats then were usually much lighter.
Black Magics were logs! They did last forever, though.

My team had an easton black magic -3 in High school. They were crap.

the aluminum ones. :lookitup :)
I actually don't like aluminum bats. I'd much rather use wooden ones. Good luck in your league. I hope I can play in a league some day. I've never played organized baseball and I want to learn how to pitch.

If you can find the Easton 777 from a few years ago, with the all red graphics, those bats had a TON of pop. And yes, they were -3.

Any Demarini is really good. The Black Magic is a really cheap bat. I don't think you should get it. Demarini's are pretty expensive, but they have great pop and last forever.

Easton Black Magic
I LOVED that bat. When we used aluminum, back in the day, we also used Worth Copperhead and another Easton forgot the name:noidea I think it might be Stealth? not sure but it was blue and yellow.

It had CRAZY pop.
Back in the day CanadianKid??? How long ago was that for you? Aren't you still in high school? Heck, it's been 17 years since I used a Black Magic. Now that's a little more like "back in the day!" :)

In reading some of the posts it seems some people are confused on the Easton Black Magic. Yes, they had a cheap model a few years ago (still might have it), but the one I am referring to (and I think a couple others) is the Easton Black Magic that was used predominately in the mid to late '80's.
In that era, the Black Magic was 'the' bat.
yes, the Black Magic I used was in 1989 and 1990.

Ok, I had seen them 2000-2004, and they blew chunks.

I bought my first Easton aluminum in '87 or '88, think that it was a B1. The Black Magic was definitely not their premium bat at that time. My impression of the BM was that it was probably very durable (my "B1" broke around '92-3, replaced it with a BX1), but felt unbalanced and didn't have a lot of pop. A guy I played with in the early '90s used one and I tried it a few times, had the same impression then.
I'm not trying to say that you shouldn't be a fan of the bat, but I've just never had the impression that it was Easton's top of the line. It would be cool if we had a BMH equivalent from Easton to give us the real scoop... :o
Hmm, during the early to mid 80's...I can honestly say Louisville Slugger had no answer to the Black Magic. That was the bat to beat and it nearly put LS out of business. During that time period we were still trying to develop a decent bat. By the late 80's we finally had some decent bats on the market. The TPX black and silvers and the black and gold with the end caps. The first batch wasn't all that great since the end cap would pop out if you left the bat in the trunk of your car on a hot day...
