Read this today on japanesebaseball.com:
Sammy Sosa's agent approached the Hanshin Tigers who are looking for a righthanded power hitter for 2007.

Heh, whatever floats his boat. ;) If Sosa wants to keep playing baseball and someone will take him, I don't see any reason why he and his agent shouldn't keep asking about opportunities.

Everybody would love him over there. I don't think that is the case for us in the U.S.

I don't think the Japanese are real high on hot dogs who sulk when things aren't going well.

If he can once again become a power hitter over there, they can have him. Right now, he hasn't hit .300 since 2001 (he hit .328), hasn't hit 30 jacks since 2004 (he hit 35), hasn't had a had a .900 OPS since 2004 (.911), hasn't had 100 ribeyes since 2003 (103).

If his 2005 performance of a .221 BA, .671 OPS, 15 doubles, 14 jacks, 45 RBI is their idea of power, then I have no idea what to tell you.

Getting old, he sure got old fast, real fast. I think theres more to the story on the decline of Sammy, looks like he dropped right off the table......suddenly.

He's declined steadily actually.
2001: 201 OPS+
2002: 160 OPS+
2003: 135 OPS+
2004: 110 OPS+
2005: 82 OPS+
Dropping " right off the table " is more like Beltre, or Beltran pre 2006.

I was speaking of his home run percentage, a stat listed in the Sabermetric Encyclopedia.
HR%
2001-----11.09
2002------8.81
2003------7.74
2004------7.72
2005------3.68
Decline yes but not that dramatic in the three seasons 2002-2003-2004.
Injury I agree took something out of Sammy. My opinion it's more than that, I would be surprised to se him come back to MLB.

Say it ain't so Sammy! I hope he comes back to MLB. He was one of the brightest stars and most well liked personalities in the game.
Come on back Sammy and make your well deserved run for #600!!

I agree that his power took a noticeble drop, but he didn't " fall of the map " suddenly, he was indeed declining before 2005. Falling off the map suddenly is someone like Beltre who had 37 WinShares in 2004, and 14 in 2005. Compared to Sosa's 14 in 04, and his 4 in 05 ( In which he missed more time). Beltre on the other hand, played about the same amount of time.

didnt he have a significant foot problem last year? he had that (toe) in 2004, but it was mostly that freak back injury that year, but i thought in 2005 he missed a great portion of time due to the foot injury last year. cant hit homers if you cant plant.
that and in 2004, i dont think he ever fully recovered from 2003 when he got drilled in the head with a 95 mph fastball. his power numbers were alright after he came back (even hit a 520 footer) but his average was way down. and then in 2004, he just never got back into the swing of things before the sneeze and the toenail.

Yeah. Sosa was never the same after his helmet got shattered by Solomon Torres. He stood way farther off the plate after that and would flail at anything on the outside corner.
