September 22, 2006. Former Browns outfielder Tom Wright is celebrating birthday anniversary #83 this morning. Pretty much in the middle of the pack in this unrequested, unofficial age scramble of living former Browns, Tom Wright is the 33rd oldest of 63 survivors to this date.
Happy Birthday, Tom Wright! :clapping

Tom Wright (BL/TR, OF) broke into the majors in 1948 with the Red Sox. He remained with Boston for four seasons before a trade on November 28, 1951 sent him and catcher Les Moss to the St. Louis Browns in exchange for outfielder Ken Wood and catcher Gus Niarhos. Wright wasn't a Brown for long. After hitting .242 (16/66, 1 HR) in 29 games for the 1951 Browns, he and Leo Thomas were dealt away by St. Louis on June 15, 1952 to the Chicago White Sox in return for infielder Willie Miranda and outfielder Al Zarilla. Wright finished the '52 season and also played the '53 season with the Pale Hose. He was finally traded by Chicago to Washington for Kite Thomas on March 27, 1954. Tom Wright finished his 9-season MLB career (1948-56) with a 3-year run for the Senators (1954-56).
In his 341-game big league career, Tom Wright batted .255 with 6 HRs. He hung around mostly because of his skill as a pinch hitter. In 1952, Wright's split year with the Browns and White Sox, his 10 pinch hits paced the American League.
