I just bought tix to see the ALCS in Det but I have never been.
I am going to make a hotel reservation but know nothing about the city. Anyone who lives there, can you tell me if any of these areas is NOT safe to stay in? I really appreciate any help.
Thanks

All the hotels I am looking at are within 15 miles of the stadium which is fine with me. I just don't want to stay in a run down area. Thanks again.

All those areas are relatively safe. If you'd like, you can pm me with exactly where you are looking, and I can help you out from there.
Have you looked into Southfield?

The Seahawks stayed at the Mariott in Dearborn during SuperBowl week, so it should be a pretty safe area. That's where the Ford Motorvehicles headquarters is located too, I think.

Indeed it is. They give paid tours of where they build the F150 truck.
There are some very nice (and expensive) hotels in Dearborn.

I live in the Ann Arbor area and have been to Detroit (and to Tiger games) several hundred times in my life. All areas that you mentioned are relatively safe but are a bit blue collar. There are umpteen hotels right by Metro Airport which are fine, as long as you don't stray into Inkster and parts of Romulus (ghetto/drug areas). Dearborn would be your best bet out of those cities you mentioned and is really close to the stadium (about 10-15 minutes or so depending on traffic).
My friends have a brand new condo right across I-75 from Comerica Park that they rent out. There's a one-car garage attached and the condo is walking distance from the stadium... just on the other side of I-75. It has 2 full bedrooms, a kitchen, a little dining nook area with a table and 4 chairs, a nice sized living room with a gas fireplace, a sofa bed, and 2 chairs, a full bath upstairs, a den/bedroom with a sofa bed and big chair on the ground level, a half bath with the den, the one-car garage, and a balcony. It has a computer with internet access (it may have a printer, too) and all bedding, furniture, dishes, appliances, etc. The living room view is of Comerica Park (very cool to see at night).
Please PM me if you're interested in renting it. There's also a very nice bed and breakfast place right next to the condo.
There are some hotels in downtown Detroit... the Ponchartrain, the hotel in the Renaissance center, The Atheneum, and others on Woodward and near the stadium and downtown. Those are a bit pricey, so it depends on what you're looking for.
Areas near the stadium and downtown... Greektown and others... and along Woodward are much nicer than they used to be. Downtown is lively and nice and has a lot of people during big events. There's a Hard Rock Cafe near the stadium and other really good spots.

Why not stay across the river in Windsor? May be a bit safer and if you go to the casiono, your winnings aren't taxed.

Dearborn is a fine city, and very close to the ballpark. I would say Dearborn, is the nicest city in Wayne County (no offense Livonia, which might be overall more aesthetically pleasing, lacks the history of a city, that Dearborn has). The one thing about Dearborn, you should know is, it is the largest collection of middle eastern people outside of the mideast (per captia), especially on the east side (if looking on a map and your hotel is east of Southfield M-39, you are there). While this might be a good chance to try some falafel or shawarma (yummy food for sure), it is also going to be smack dab in the middle of Ramadan. I am not sure of what those Muslim people are fasting for, I just know they are extra grumpy (even for a northern city, where we are all extra to our selves), especially to the folks that are oblivious to that fact. The Muslim people are fasting from sunrise to sunset, so through the night, give a eatery a try (they stay open very late to feed the fasters). Not to put you off from the whole Dearborn on Ramadan expierence, after all someone could during the night invite you to their home to eat with them, it is part of the Ramadan thing they do, reaching out to others.
that was my FYI...as a life long resident.
