Anyone pitch down under? I do as a righty and I was wondering about different deliveries---

I was trying to for a while, but I simply cannot get proper spin on my breaking balls while feeling natural. I gave up and throw from 3/4

Do you keep your body more or less upright and throw with an extremely low arm angle (Quisenberry or Carl Mays) or tilt your upper body and throw more like sidearm (Ted Abernathy)?

I am becoming a sidearm pitcher (I never pitched but I discovered the sidearm method a few weeks ago) and I keep my body down when throwing. I have a curveball and a slider too, I point my curveball behind de batter so that it breaks up and down right thrue the strike zone and I point my slider at the batter's knees.
I expect to pitch my first game soon. :)

I was watching the slo-mo of Myers (Yankee reliever) the other night vs BoSox. Yes, the ball comes from a wierd low angle that makes it harder for hitter, but it seemed very "touch/feel" dependent. When he missed, he really missed. There were some fat breaking balls. Guess that's true for any kind of pitching, but I'm wondering if the problem is magnified for a submariner.

Sidearm, 3/4, and submarine all work for me. Straight over I find is horrible. I don't see how anyone can do it. I get NO spin on my curve, my fastball is flat, and my slider rarely reaches the plate. Submarine and sidearm work the best for me, but I can do 3/4 as well.

I'm 3/4. I've been told by an ex-bluejay pitcher that I have a similar delivery to Billy Koch.

i pitch inbetween straight over and 3/4, but more on the straight over side. I think 3/4 is more comfortable, but i can't get many of my pitches over the plate, so im more used to straight over. I can pitch sidearm but its not that great. There's a guy on my fall ball team and he pitches sidearm submarine, but he pitches so his he hand is really low to the ground, almost like underhanding it, but on an angle.

Myers was extremely inconsistent...I remember him being brought in to face Matsui in a super critical spot and promptly walking Hideki on 4 pitches that didn't even have the slightest acquaintance with the plate. Hey, thanks, Mike!!! His Bosox days, of course...
I guess pitchers of any style can just plain stink...look at Quisenberry, he had many good years in a row of amazing control with lots of saves and good ERAs. Carl Mays also had many good years as a flamethrowing submariner, albeit one who killed a batter and never showed a bit of remorse.

I was living near Chicago (Schaumburg area) and liking it until I married a girl from Wisconsin...had to move. Those cheeseheads are bred to HATE Chicago.

Apparently I need to clear this up. I mean I am from Chicago, so I watch the sox. And it is not a good thing he has a motion like Koch, since Koch blows.

OK. I'm from Toronto and I watch the Jays and when they had Koch and he was hitting 100 quite a few times and was a good closer for the time he was here.

Yeah, when he couldnt throw 100 anymore, he was screwed. The true sign of being a thrower, and not a pitcher.

Lots of people could rack up strikeouts if they threw 100. He lost some velocity, was throwing 94ish, and consistently got owned.

i usually throw between over the top and 3/4's , but if i want i can drop down to the side to put a much bigger , although slower break on my curve...i keep my body straight and just throw sidearm when i want to do that

A friend of mine (who is on this board) is a pure submarine pitcher. All bent over and everything. Plus he's a lefty. His control isn't pinpoint, but he baffles guys. We'll bring him in after a righty that throws over the top, and the batters won't have a clue how to hit him. He has a fastball and a nasty 2-seam, and guys hate to face him. All about being different (funky).
