Sure, the 03 Expos were the same and then they crumbled.

3.5 games back and with a new leader in Los Angeles, it'll be tough.

I'll say it again, that was the weirdest ending to a game I've ever seen in my life.

The let two big games slip against the Mets last week too, winning 4-1 in the 8th and 3-2 in the ninth :(

I dont think the Expos had 5 rookie starters and 4 rookies starting pitchers, or a 15 million payroll............great story, but not as great as 06 Marlins.

no, we had just as bad, trust me.

We had a ton of rookies and inexperienced players, Armas Jr, Wilkerson, Patterson, endy Chavez, Terrmell Sledge and I think just these 5 cost maybe over 1.5 million.

The only great we had was Guerrerro who can be compared to your current Cabrera.

You compare them how.....?

Are you saying that Miguel Cabrera is uncomparable to Vlad Guerrero?

Guerrero: .328/29 HR/110 RBI/87 R/.920 OPS
Cabrera: .340/25 HR/110 RBI/108 R/1.009 OPS

Hitting, I understand that....

But, in fielding? Sorry.

Almost? I'm pretty sure it was. I wasn't sure if it was a joke or not.

The Fish must pray to retain Girardi as the skipper for next season.

Three. But it could have easily been five.

The think that most impressed me about the game was the way the young Marlins stuck by each other after the game. Players didn't make excuses or point fingers. Instead, they stood behind their teammates' play and owned their own mistakes. This is a talented team with some class. Payroll aside...class is priceless.

This team will be great... at least until they're arbitration eligible and demand 50-million dollar contracts and get shipped out! :grouchy

Until Loria makes another fire sale.

It boggles my mind how a despicable creature like Loria is still allowed to be an owner of an MLB team. He should have been banned for life twice by now. The Marlins have proven once again you can be a winner in baseball in spite of ownership that borders on criminal insanity. Now if they can find the financing to build a new baseball only field......

In 2003, Armas alone made 2.1 Million, so the likelihood of those 5 players making 1.5 million is pretty slim, unless the others had to PAY to play on the Expos.

The 2003 Expos had 8 players making at least 2 million dollars, the 2006 Marlins have 1. Also, it's not fair to say Guerrerro "was the only great", I'm sure it was pretty nice to have Gold Glove winners at second base and shortstop. The Expos had two established veterans on that Pitching staff in Hernandez and Vasquez. The Marlins, well they had Dontrelle Willis to be the guiding light for that young pitching staff.

I don't think there is any comparison here. The Marlins are the better story.

Even as Met fan, my vote is for Joe Girardi for manager of the year. He took a team of kids picked to be the worst team in the national league kept them in the wild card race into late September. Nice job. Florida will be contenders in the next few years as long as the owner doesn't trade the team away --- again.

Wow... what a dim-witted comment

A team far exceeds expectations, and because they fall just short they crumble... that is hilarious

I dont think Loria is alone to blame for the fire sales, I mean, if you had a clothing store, and you sold top of the line merchandise, but they dont sell well, to the point where you actually lose money, pretty soon you will lower the level of the merchandise you are selling, you are not going to stock your backroom with designer clothes that dont sell. Fans dont show up to the games, he also inherited a horrible lease on the stadium they play in. As far as Marlins owners go, hes been the best so far, we all know about Huizenga, and John Henry didnt have the means to build a stadium, and all of a sudden he buys the Red Sox for like a zillion dollars. Loria didnt dismantle after 03, the only significant players who werent signed were Lee and Pudge(who was offered a nice contract but he wanted to cash out at the end of his career and took the Detroit route), then the next year he signed Delgado, and fans still wouldnt show up....................even this year, the best story in baseball, and fans still dont show up. The fans are not totally to blame neither, most of the people in Miami hold 9-5 jobs, that gives you two hours to get to a stadium that is a good 30-45 mins away (more with traffic).

If they were to take the title, do you think it would be more remarkable then the R.Sox title?

My preview before the start of this season was that the Marlins will finish dead, but very dead last in the division or in the league, now they have a better record than the Braves, who knew!!!!

Yet another blown game by the pen last night...........the Fish were 2 or 3 relievers away from the playoffs this year.

That was against the Mets bench team, too. There wasn't a single regular starter in the lineup.
