A few weeks ago odds makers showed LA as a vertual lock on getting a playoff berth. I remember questioning it at the time and thinking that they could easily choke the thing up. Well they just got bumped out of 1st and SF and Philly are making wild charges for the wildcard. So much for odds makers. May the Blue go down....in flames

The point is that a choking is in the making, a massive choke job that the Dodger Blue have a near patent on. Sorry, perhaps I shouldn't use the word choke. Would gag be more appropriate. LOL

the hated dodgers are but .5 games out, and the big men have actually lost ground this past week.

I wonder what the oddsmakers were giving in July, when the Dodgers were in last place, of them being in first place with two weeks to go? Hardly the definition of choke. That would be left to what happened to the Giants in the 2002 World Series. :D

Well, they still have a game to play against the Padres tomorrow, so that they can rebound back into a half game lead if the Dodgers beat San Diego.

Even if the dodgers were to get in the playoffs, I doubt they would be able to go anywhere.

Neither them nor the Padres will make it past the NLDS.

i'm far from a dodgers fan (not a big fan of a team that has both nomar and grady little on it. mueller's fine by me though), but i'd have to say this isn't that big a deal if they do lose it.
they were an inconsistent team all year, the padres are the better team, it was impressive the dodgers were in it for this long, and they could still VERY well win it. i don't think they will because of the general mood around the team, but statistically speaking its not unlikely at all.
and the dodgers have one hell of a succesful franchise, i'm not so sure they've patented the choke.

i think dodgers/padres vs cardinals in a seven game series is the definition of "pick 'em".

A Mets fan talking about the Dodgers blowing 1st place.... Well considering the same team has won the Mets' division so many years in a row... I dont see how they can really talk

Me too, and Maddux finally on the playoff circuit again, so he can get beat up again by the Mets or Cards.

You do know that LA is 0-7 against St. Louis this year, right?

Yeah but those 7 games were all during the stretch right after the AS break when the Dodgers lost 13 of their first 14 games...
They have played much better since then while the Cards have not played so well... I think if they meet in the playoffs it really would be a toss-up and the regular season games dont have much meaning IMO...

Thats true, take for instance the Dodgers in 1988, they were 1-10 or 1-11 against the Mets, and everybody knows what happened after that.

i'd forgotten about their sweeps of the dodgers but i watch the cards on a daily basis and this isn't the same team that won 100 plus games the last two seasons. in a seven game series, they'll throw carp and suppan and pray for rain. wouldn't you take your chances in games three and four against jeff weaver and anthony reyes or jason marquis? their closer is done for the year, their top left handed starter is done for the year, their starting ss hasn't played in a month, their starting cf has post concussion syndrome...no one should be overly frightened of the cardinals come october. trust me-i've been watching this all year long. can they beat the dodgers, the padres, and the mets in a seven game series? yes. they could also lose a seven game series to the cubs or pirates. to get out of the first round, they need home field advantage so suppan can pitch game 2 at home (his road stats are not particularly good) and then they need a good start out of either weaver or reyes/marquis. in the end, it will come down to the bullpens.

A team that is up 3-0 in ALCS and loses 4 straight, chokes. A team up by 13 games in August and loses the division, chokes. If the Dodgers do not win the Division, it willl hardly be a choke job. They were hardly in complete control of the division..the oddsmakers must have fell in love with their big winning streak...

Why? There are three teams contending, which is more than what you can say for the other divisions.

But none of them has a great chance of winning 90 games, its not like in the old days anymore.

Yeah because there are SO many teams in the NL that are going to win 90 games.

Who knows. But after last year's miserable 90+ loss season with a computer geek for a GM, everything from here on in is gravy as far as I'm concerned.

Doesn't happen often and it came right down to the wire after the blue had a massive lead and almost choked it all away. They are chokers and will be gone in 1st round. I also said that Detroit would not choke away a playoff birth

Dodgers are 40-19 since July 28 and have won thier last 6 straight down the final stretch, including several desperate clutch ralleys to clinch a playoff berth.
If this is your definition of a choke, you're pretty clueless. But I assume you're not. I assume you just like spouting nonsence against teams you don't like. :waving
