After doing some google searches of Cap Anson, I had come across some images of him. However, I've also found that not all of the them look the same. Here's an example of what I'm saying:

1.http://www.thehitters.com/photos/full/1-1102-cap_anson_picture_4.jpg

2.http://www.thehitters.com/photos/full/1-1102-Ans1.jpg

I can see noticeable differences in the eyes, chin, and overall facial contour. So it would appear to me as though the figures above do not match. Would anyone care to explain? And if they are not the same person, then which one is the real Cap Anson and who is the other?

Here's the site where I got the images from:

It seems like most of the other photos more or less resemble the first. So why anyone would credit the second one as being Cap Anson is a mystery to me.

All thos images are Cap Anson's..there's not a doubt in my mind.

Perhaps he ate one to many hot dogs the week the first one was drawn....notice I said drawn..an artist's depiction of Anson.

I think they look like they could be the same person, especially considering what the above poster said about them being drawings.

But really I just came in here to tell you that I named my cat after Cap Anson.

Both those photos are famous Cap photos, and are indeed him.

Here are a few more.

Hopefully you're right. It's just that I find the second photo of him (or is it?) to look a bit inconsistent with all his others. Maybe it's in his eyes or something, which to me look dark brown. Anson had light colored eyes which is evident in some of his portraits and photos.

For example, compare the first image with the second. Clearly, there is a difference. (And even if the top image is just a painting, surely it would hardly look any different from the real Cap himself.)

It seems to me that both the images in post #10 are paintings. Neither is an actual photo.

I love old pictures and I've studied a lot of them, baseball and otherwise. Something I've noticed is that the old types of cameras didn't always capture light colored eyes that well. Since I'm no photography expert I can't explain why, but it's definitely something I've noticed.

To me, those two images look like Anson. The ears look similar and the jawline is pretty much the same. Keep in mind when you look at portraits that the artist is going to smooth over any imperfections.
