September 5, 2006. Former Browns catcher Tom Jordan is celebrating his 87th birthday anniversary today. Jordan was born on 09/05/19.

Happy Birthday, Tom Jordan!

Tom Jordan qualifies as the 16th oldest of our 63 living former Browns by the smallest of margins. In fact, Tom was hitless in his only time at bat for the Browns in 1948. As for as the record books show, he never played a single pitch in the field on defense. So, it's also a stretch to call him a catcher for the '48 Browns because - catch he did not.

Jordan's earlier MLB experience included 14 games and a .267 average for the 1944 White Sox. Jordan's next 10 games for the White Sox came in 1946, where he again batted .267 for Chicago before being sent to the Cleveland Indians in a trade for a player to be named later. Jordan batted only .200 in 14 games for the Indians in 1946, but he did collect his only major league home run before effectively ending his brief big league career, except for that one remaining time at bat that would qualify him forever as a former Brown in 1948. In all, Tom Jordan went 23 for 96 career at bats for a .240 average.

One Browns game, Tom? That's OK. We're not looking at how Brown you were here. We just want to know if you were Brown at all. And you were. With that one time at bat in 1948. Hope your day went great. Sleep well tonight in the knowledge that your fans haven't forgotten you.
