Logical change but I'd advocate moving the compensation to lower rounds rather than elimination. Maybe picks at the end of the 3rd/5th/7th depending on grade. And perhaps if a top-tier FA leaves the team he has been on for at least 3 full seasons the team gets a pick at the end of the first.
As the article indicates, the biggest change may be in teams willingness to pull the trigger on late season deals.
