I hope this thread is relevant to this forum.
In Hall-of-Fame debates, sometimes great players emerge beaten about the head and shoulders because, great as they are, they are perceived as undeserving of baseball's highest accolade.
What's your lineup of the best players who (a) are eligible for the Hall of Fame, (b) not in the Hall of Fame, (c) shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame, (c) probably will never go into the Hall of Fame (though goodness knows what may happen eventually)?
I think of them as the gatekeepers: "If you want to get in, you have to get by me."
Just off the top of my head:
C Darrell Porter
1B Gil Hodges
2B Willie Randolph
3B Ken Boyer
SS Bert Campaneris
LF Roy White
CF Dom Dimaggio
RF Tony Oliva
P1 Lon Warneke
P2 Luis Tiant
P3 Bucky Walters
P4 Tommy Bridges
P5 Orel Hershiser
RP Dan Quisenberry
