This single season combo feat has been done ten times, but the only non-Red Sox players to do it are Cal Ripken, Ben Grieve, Ernie Lombardi, Brad Ausmus, and Billy Hitchcock. Hitchcock actually played with the Red Sox for two seasons but didn't pull this off while with them.

I think I'm on the right track, but I have 2 others listed:
Grounding into Double Plays (30+)

Jim Rice, 36, 1984 Sox

Jim Rice, 35, 1985 Sox

Ben Grieve, 32, 2000 A's

Jackie Jensen, 32, 1952 Sox

Cal Ripken, Jr. 32, 1985, O's

Ivan Rodriguez, 32, 1999 Rangers

Tony Armas, 31, 1983 Sox

Bobby Doerr, 31, 1949 Sox

Jim Rice, 31, 1983 Sox

Brad Ausmus, 30, 2002 Astros

Billy Hitchcock, 30, 1950 A's

Ernie Lombardi, 30, 1938 Reds

And Yaz in 1964.

You are on the right track.

The complete group would be:

Bobby Doerr
Carl Yastrzemski
Jackie Jensen
Jim Rice
Ben Grieve
Billy Hitchcock
Brad Ausmus
Cal Ripken
Ernie Lombardi

Doerr, Yaz, Jensen, and Rice (twice) did this as members of The Red Sox. Other than the five other players on this list no one else has done this. So what did Irod, Winfield, Rice (1983), and Armas do to keep them out of this group.

Last hint. They all hit into 30 dp's in a season. What did they fail to do in those seasons?

>=30 DP's and <=30 Homers

That is correct.

That seems like a random stat, unless there's some connection between DP's and home runs.
