We all know that Jose Canseco, Barry Bonds, and Alex Rodriguez are the only three members of the 40-40 club.
But how many more people, without looking it up, can you name that have had a 40 SB and 40 HR season at some point in their career?

Willie Mays for sure. Soriano and Beltran will make it this year when they hit their 40th HR.

Mays - correct
Soriano - already has 42, joined the club this year, correct
Beltran - has 39, one away from joining this club
Howard Johnson
Close. Best HR year, 38/ Best SB year, 41

I know Brady Anderson had a 50/20 year and a 20/50 year.
Correct. Here is what we have so far, in no particular order:
Players with a 40 HR season and a 40 SB season (bold is in same year):
Jose Canseco
Barry Bonds - one of only two players to have a 50 HR and a 50 SB season
Alex Rodriguez
Brady Anderson - the other player to have a 50 HR and a 50 SB season
Willie Mays
Alfonso Soriano

. (9.?) Carlos Beltran is currently 1 HR short

I won't look it up, but didn't the original Ken Williams, of the 1920's Browns, have a monster power/speed combo?
Gee Walker

Nope, Ken Williams topped out at 39 HR and 37 SB, mind you in the same year.

OK, next guess is Bobby Bonds.

Bobby easily qualifies in SB, but peaked at 39 HR.
Honus Wagner

Vladimir Guerrero
Maybe Ellis Burks

This is a tough league... Andre Dawson makes it on HR, but peaks at 39 SB.

OK... I looked them up. One of the players is currently active, and almost a no-brainer for the list. The other is a Hall of Famer.

Maybe Ellis Burks
Vlad is correct.
Burns did hit 40 HRs, but topped out at 32 SBs (same year he hit the 40 HRs)
Gee is correct, the last one is a HOFer

What? Are you saying I have no brain cuz I got Vlad correct?:grouchy
It's okay, at least I get a point.
Wow, I would have guessed Hondo Howard or Harmon Killebrew before I guessed the last one.
And, I would never have thought Schmidt had 29 sb's one year.

Andre Dawson career high for HR was 49, SB was 39
Howard Johnson career high for HR was 38, SB was 41
Eric Davis career high for HR was 37, SB was 80
Ken Williams career high for HR was 39, SB was 37
Jimmy Winn career high for HR was 37, SB was 43

Dammit I was certain Eric Davis had done this. There goes my guess.
Oh now I see that Ryne Sandberg was the last one.

Davis actually had 27 hrs and 50 steals at the all star break in '87. He was on a pace for 50 and 90.

Absolutely staggering combo of power and speed. For me he is right at the top of the "what if" list if he had been able to stay healthy. Mickey Mantle might have been the only player to ever have a greater combo of power and flat out speed than Davis.
