It was three years ago, that we had our last taste of playoff fever. The last time we tought we had a shot at playing in october.
The team went on a 6 day road trip to California, and after a win in San Diego on the 24th, they found themselves 4 games back of the Phillies for the wild card, just before a 4 game home series against Philadelphia. When it was all said and done, the Expos were a top the wild card standings.
A sweep. 12-1, 14-11, 9-6 and 4-0. in front of a 30 000 and two 20 000 fans crowds at Olympic stadium. The Expos were front page news again. You could feel the excitement. Everybody was into it. And the club had 9 straight games to play against Miami and Philly, who were the other two teams in the race for the 4th playoff spot.
Unfortunately, thanks in part to lousy coaching by... whats his name? Robertson? anyway, the team got swept by the Marlins (4 games) and Philadelphia (2 games), falling out of contention. They chocked, basically. And eventually, they watched on as the Marlins went on to win the World Series.
It lasted less than a week. But it was a good week.
