After leaving the Phillies, Jack Sanford had a good pitching career with the Giants, including a great ERA in his World Series pitching. While he was the Rookie of the Year (Baseball Writers), the Phillies have mistakenly listed Ed Bouchee in their center field Memory Lane recognition area. It is Bouchee's picture, not Sanford's that is displayed.

The sad part is that Bouchee was convicted of sexual crimes involving minors. He only had one good year, his first, then he was moved to other teams and had a short career.

I have been trying to get the Phillies to remove the picture since 6/28/06. Larry Shenk (VP), at first, refused my request to take down Bouchee's picture, but on 8/7 an admintrative assistant (Robb) said they did make a mistake and they will have to contact the company that put up their display. Meanwhile, the fans come to the park to see this wrong information about a player who should not be there ( Bouchee), even if he won the award, due to his crime. Ask Pete Rose, he can't get into the Hall of Fame.

There is no argument that Sanford should be given his props.

But the '57 Phillies had a whole bunch of top-notch rookies. Eddie Bouchee, whatever his later sins, had a helluva rookie year, as did shortstop Chico Fernandez, outfielder Harry Anderson, and closer Dick "Turk" Farrell. And Don Cardwell, who would have a 14-year major league career and a no-hitter to his credit, also started 19 games for the 1957 Phillies.

So Sanford was perhaps the brightest star, but the 1957 Phillies had one of the best groups of rookies ever in their starting lineup.
