I believe it was the late '60s when these were produced, but at an auction I was able to acquire several small superballs with pictures of players within the ball. The balls are amber in color, and they are the size of very small superballs. Any one have an idea of the story behind these superballs, who produced them, etc? I had them in a coffee can full of change, which someone stole from my apartment, so I can't provide a picture.

I got some of those years ago, but I can't think for the life of me when or where I got them.

In 1969 Topps released some rubber balls with player pictures in them.

They are known in the hobby as "1970 Superballs", they were made by Chemtoy. There are 286 known so far, high book is $6 NRMT for common players, on up to $20 for HOFers, and $50 Rose, $75 Clemente (red), $60 Clemente (blue), $45 Jackson, $50 Aaron, $50 Mays, $40 Ted Williams, etc.

Thank you very much, flyingdutchdude. The ones I had were some common Reds, and Tony Perez. I didn't pay much for them, and the idiot who took the can probably threw them out.
Your knowledge of the hobby is a tremendous asset to this forum, and is much appreciated.
