I was looking at the NA stats on Baseball Reference, and I noticed a few years where the batting outs (AB-H), were greater than the innings pitched times three. How does that work? I thought innings pitched outs were a measure of all the outs in a game. Are there non-hit at-bats that are not outs?

Caught stealing would be an out not in AB-H.

Yes, but the IP outs should be the total number of outs in a game, and should not be less than the batting outs. AB-H+CS+other outs would equal IP outs. I suspect it has something to do with scoring in the old days, and I was wondering if anyone knew the answer.

I suspect Reach on Error or Fielders choice that resulted in no outs was not inlcuded in that.
Outs for a player equals AB-H+SF+SH+CS+GIDP. That does not inlcude outs via the baserunner. It does include not actually getting out, even though the scorer deemed the hitter should have, or in other words, reaching on an error or fielders choice that resulted in no outs. One thing to remember is that not all errors result in making base or even preventing an out. All they have to do is enable a runner/batter to reach a base that he otherwise wouldn't have or enable a batter to continue his time at the plate.
I am a little suprised that IP*3 is actually lower than batter outs, but you have to consider it's the NA. No real equipment would result in a ton more errors than the last 50+ years.
