i enjoyed watchin it on ESPN when i was in Cuba. Only saw a few games when i was getting ready to go out and stuff but i thought it was quite entertaining. There was a lot of talent on display and a few comedy errors which made it worth watching. Never made a point of stopping just to watch it though.

I haven't seen him, but all of my friends talk about a 6'9" kid that I think is from Saudi Arabia. They said that they also have a 6'4" kid. I'm not sure if I got the team right.

My cousin in NY (who has ESPN) said that Canada was losing to Saudi Arabia, but the Canadian pitcher had like 15 strikeouts. Is that true?

And the pitcher from the Saudi Arabian team had 13 K's...Not a bad show by both pitchers for 6 inning of work.

Ya it's true. But those Saudi Arabians were HUGE. That one kid was like 6"9 and another guy was probably like 190lbs:eek:

Yeah he was running and I thought there was an earthquake. It was scary. Like when Canada had a wild pitch and he was running home..id run away and hide..he's a scary kid.
Btw..is anyone going to the LLWS this year?

The biggest kid is named Aaron Durley. He is officially listed at 6'8" and 256 lbs. Absolutely a giant at the age of just turning 13. He could be 7' before he even gets to high school at that rate. He was the biggest LLWS participant ever last year at 6'5" and now he has grown 3 inches since then.
Unfortunately for his Saudi team and himself, he doesn't look like he has a chance hitting. His swings looked pitiful. He really is too big to be a good hitter. But he's got a bright future in basketball!
Side note: I'm curious what they are feeding those Saudi military brats. They have not only Durley, but another kid that is a solid 6'3" and a good player that is 6'1 and looks to be well in excess of 200 lbs. I wanna know what diet they have grown up on.

Does anyone else see the folly of the little league world series. They have 13 yr olds playing on fields that my 9 yr old plays on in usssa in St. Louis. It's a joke to pitch from the same distance as a player 4 yrs younger. They get all excited about a 200 ft. home run. Kids on my 13 yr. old team often hit 8 to 10 pop-ups agame that would be home runs at the so called world series. Then again they pitch and run bases from the same distance as my 9 yr old. Why don't they get with a real program for the age.

I see a lot of folly in dragging up a 16 month old post to make a tired point. Get out the dead horse. The topic has been beat to death. I also see a lot of folly in your post being the best you have to offer as your first postings. I can always tell the 9U and 10U chest pounding dads who haven't been there, done it in baseball. They think their son's age is important in terms of development. Pick a size field, any size and have fun in preteen ball. Build the passion. That's all that matters. If you have a response, don't direct it to me. I'm not interested. Go beat the dead horse some more.

But you can"t have kids playing on fields that are way to small it is not baseball. The runners can't take leads the biggest kid is always the pitcher very few chances for plays at first base, ruining the kids arms by throwing curves every other pitch. You can't tell me that is productive baseball for any young player. Both my boys play on usssa major teams not because of me but do to their hard work and love of the game. Again I say tha the llws is a poor representation of youth baseball and everyone I know in our area and places we travel agree. Big deal I'm new to this forum I didn't know it mattered if is was an old thread or not it doesn't change the facts.

I don't get what you have against the LLWS. Most of that is just untrue. Most of the kids don't throw many curves, maybe 10 per game. They have a pitch count limit which is quite low.
Guess what? It's DAMN hard to get the LLWS. They get there through hard work too. Don't think your sons are the only ones.
The LLWS is a fine representation of youth baseball, and just because you (or your sons) think you're/they're better than everyone doesn't mean it's not baseball.

It's just the rantings of a know it all 9U dad who thinks 9U is important. Let him come back and tell us about the game if his son is playing in high school or college. Of course, this is probably one of those dads who doesn't understand 75% of the 9U studs won't be good enough to make the high school team. Some of them won't make the middle school team. His kid is locked into a college ride because his son plays travel at 9U.
Most of the kids playing in the LLWS are travel players. Where I live the kids play travel around LL to play more games. LL is the priority. When my son played LL all-stars he said although travel was better ball, the one thing he liked better about all-stars was the pressure/challenge of win or die. With travel there's a new tournament next week. His team played into August both years. One very good aspect of all-stars was they practiced almost every day they didn't play since the kids all lived nearby. A lot of practice is better for development than a lot of games and a few practices. Travel teams tend to play a lot more than practice. This can reinforce weak fundamentals that don't get corrected due to lack of practices.
Sometimes I wonder if having a new travel tournament every week doesn't take away the drive and focus this week. The kid/team having a tough weekend doesn't haved to suck it up and survive. They can go through the motions, finish up and come back next week.
Now that my son plays 16U travel (he's fourteen), as the pitching gets more challenging it's harder to maintain a swing and timing only facing live, competitive pitching on weekends in the summer. It's much easier to maintain timing playing Tues, Thur, Sat.
I won't discuss the size of the field and leads. It's irrelevant until the kids hit the one field that matters, 60/90.

Few events have done more for baseball. Yes the field may be too small, yes there are better travel teams, but show me an event that attracts more kids, more volunteers and more exposure. At the end of the day Kids from all over the world - hundreds of thousands - play all season for a spot at the LLWS.
WRT 9u Travel ball... doesn't matter. When we got them in HS I could not have cared less.
