I was just looking at some stats today and saw that Ethier is still hitting near .350. He had a lengthy hitting streak going, and even steals bases here and there. What I want to know... Why was he traded for Milton Bradley, of all people? Yikes! :grouchy

Ethier looks like this year's Jeff Francoeur.

Ethier himself has said that there were too many prospects ahead of him, and that he most likely wouldn't have seen much MLB action had he stayed in the Oakland farm.
Besides, Bradley has done pretty well after the All-Star break.

Billy Beane already said that you have to give something to get something. And Milton Bradley has been on Beane's wish list for years.
Bradley's been delivering since he came back from the DL. He's been the sparkplug of late in our offense.

Everyone makes dumb deals.
You're right , look at the Kazmir deal (NYM-TB) and this one :
MIN trades C A.J. Pierzinski to MIN for Joe Nathan and Francisco Liriano .
But you don't know how dumb the deal is until you make it .

Pierzynski's an AS in ChiSox, but was a backup in San Fran.
Nathan and Liriano exceed the talent of Pierzynski.

Yeah, I've been asking myself that too. I still wonder, "Why did we trade Jeremy Bonderman and Angel Berroa?"

You must be joking, Bonderman would have to pitch in AAA Sacramento..

Ethier's BA/BIP is .375 this year, an average players is .290. Only HOF-types and 1 year wonders put up big BA/BIP numbers, Ethier isnt a HOFer by any stretch, dont sweat it we got a good deal.
Oaklands OF Depth Chart looked like this before he was dealt:
1. Kotsay
2. Swisher
3. Payton
4. Kielty
5. Herrera
6. Watson
7. Ethier
I mean, Herrera wasnt hurt and Watson hadnt freaked out by then but you cant predict the future, trading a 7 for a 2 or 3 was a master move by Beane.

The Min-SF deal was AJ for Joe Nathan (The Prize) and Boof Bonser (The Young kid) and then Liriano was a 'throw in'. :laugh
What a 'throw in' that turned out to be! :laugh

Depth charts don't mean much here, Ethier was still our #1 ranked prospect until Daric Barton arrived from St.Louis via the Mulder trade.
I still think BB didn't have to give up a top prospect to get Bradley - a malcontent who the Dodger's I think would've gladly accepted a single A prospect or a bag of peanuts to rid themselves of MB.

Did you speak too soon ? YIKES!!! Ethier peaked early and slumped in Sept... 5 for 35 in Sept.!!!!! In the seven days leading to the A's division -clincher in Seattle on Tues., Bradley hit 4 home runs, drove in 9 and provided the kind of lineup protection Frank Thomas needed....:clapping

Why did we trade Andre Ethier?
Because Bradley raked in the playoffs while Ethier rode the pine for the Dodgers and didn't contribute squat.
