View Full Version : Colletti's new Dodgers blow the streak

Lugo completely blows the play that would have kept the game tied with the most pathetic misplayed "dive to try and save my misplay" in the history of mankind.
Then after that, Betemit screws up the pickle and allows another run to score.

Your constant Colletti/Dodger bashing is quite tiresome...post after post after post after post...

Well, what if I told you there are Braves fans pining for Betemit? Does that make you feel better?

I can't believe that Grady Little left Derek Lowe in past the 8th inning.

Betemit has hit very well for us so far.

Colletti's new Dodgers blow the streak
Overlooking the fact that Colletti's new Dodgers had an 11-game winning streak.
I'm not a Dodger fan. In fact, outside of Giant fans, I doubt if anyone dislikes the Dodgers more than I do. I hated them in Brooklyn, and even more when they moved to Los Angeles. But I do give credit where credit is due.

I never saw his pitch count after 8. Was it at or over 100?
If he was still in the low 90's on pitch count, then I can understand it because he was really cruising.
Then again, this is the same Grady Little that left in Pedro way too long so who knows.

Few things about my thoughts on Colletti:
1. Yes I really can't stand the guy (as if anyone couldn't tell)
2. I think the streak would have happened anyway due to randomness and I hate that Colletti gets credit for something that I feel he had no part in doing
3. Betemit has been pretty decent with the bat although it is mostly with power. Perhaps he will be better than I expected.
4. The streak really ended because the cocky Dodger scoreboard operator put up the 2nd run in the bottom of the 8th before Kent had a chance to choke it away. I knew the Dodgers would lose after they blew that opportunity.
5. Lugo has been exactly what I expected. He can't hit. He was good with the glove before that atrocious misplay last night. Still stand by my hatred of that trade for him
6. The only deal Colletti made that I liked was the Maddux trade and thus far, Maddux has been good
7. The real surprise of the Dodger season that has led to any success they have had has been Andre Ethier, who was a product of a Dodger scout (Al something) convincing Colletti to trade for him. Thank you Al something for saving the Dodgers from complete Colletti disaster this season.
8. I hate Colletti because I love the Dodgers and I think he is bad for them. I am normally an optimistic person, but I just can't see it with this guy. And he is a former Giant...nuff said there.

Keep in mind that Betemit kept the streak going with his game-tying HR two nights ago. Like BlueZebra said, Colletti's new Dodgers also played a huge part in the 11-gamer.
They could win the division and people would still be moaning about the Aybar and Izturis deals (I have yet to find anyone upset at the Odalis deal).

They should be moaning about the other deal. That was the truly terrible one.
I rate my feelings on the three trades as following:
1. Maddux - good
2. Betemit - slightly negative
3. Lugo - hatred

Way to go Dodgers! A new streak is started!
flash143817: Don't be such a negative person. "Fan" is short for "fanatic". Try to be a bit more fanatic about the Dodgers. Try to get a grip on yourself, accept that Colleti is running the show, and cheer for our team no matter what. Save the negative bulls***t for your diary!
Man, I get sick of negative posts . . . baseball is such a wonderful game, why do some "fans" have to screw it up by finding something to bitch about every damn day of the season. It's like everyone is a Yankees fan all of the sudden . . .

Quite a few managers actually rely on stats other than pitch counts. I'd think that Grady would agree that pitch counts are mostly ******** when it comes to most MLB SPs.
No real Dodger fan would give two s***s about the whole "Pedro incident". Get over it.

I have rooted heartily for the Dodgers all season. Just because I can be realistic about my team and not just blindly fanatic no matter what doesn't mean I'm not rooting for them all the time. Hell I hate them so much that I have 4 Dodgers on my fantasy baseball team. :laugh
I just don't think Colletti is good for them. Is that so wrong?

I hope Grady pays attention to pitch counts unless he wants all the pitchers' arms to fall off. I was merely asking a question about where Lowe was on his pitch count heading into the 9th.
And I apologize for being a big enough baseball fan that I actually watch other teams too besides just the Dodgers and I accidentally managed to watch that playoff game that Grady blew with Pedro.

Don't confuse my eternal Dodger optimism for blind fanaticism. You're perfect for the "Dodger Blues" site, trust me. You and the guy that runs that bunghole of a site would get along famously I would imagine.
I watched the "Pedro game" too - that doesn't mean that I continue to hold that decision against Little; I never held it against him as I didn't care is the BoSox won or lost.
Remember the scene from Bull Durham when Crash reminds Nuke that "the moment is over"? Well, baseball is a "the moment is over" type of game. Who gives two craps what he did in that game? It's what he does/doesn't do right now for the Dodgers that counts.
Lastly, as I said before, some managers/pitching coaches at the MLB level don't worry too much about pitch count, especially when they're fighting for their playoff lives, even in early August. Lowe is a big boy; he'd let Little and/or Honeycutt know if he needed to come out of the game.
Look, I'm not trying to pick a fight here, but you gotta realize that most fans are going to take an exception to anyone, alleged fan or not, who bashes their team. 1988 was a long time ago, and I'm not going to let pitch counts or managers decisions from long ago occupy one damn second of my time while the Dodgers are charging toward the postseason.

I'm not trying to pick a fight either. I've been on more message boards than this so I realize that what people on a message board think isn't going to bother me at all. And I think that fans have to realize that I'm not bashing the team...I'm bashing the GM because I feel he is bad for the team. So in that manner, I am supporting the team completely because I want them to get rid of the GM that I feel is bad for them so that the team can get better.
Fair enough to wipe Little's slate clean once he came to the Dodgers. I was just pointing out that he has precedence for pitch count abuse if in fact that was the case of what happened with Lowe.
But I really disagree that a guy like Lowe (or any other pitcher) would let the manager know he should come out of the game. Pitchers are notorious for always claiming they are ok even when they obviously aren't.
And generally I am optimistic too, but I just can't see it with Colletti. I was optimistic enough though that I decided on 4 Dodgers for my fantasy team, probably much more than the sane person would choose on their team, especially when none of the 4 included the 2 Dodger All Stars from this season :laugh

The hot dog vendors ARE a disgrace. I was first in line to get my Dodger Dog, no one else around and it still took three minutes--5 seconds to get my dog and 2:55 to figure out how to turn on the register and give me my change. :noidea Ya'd think they might've thought of that BEFORE the gates were opened. The Dodgers don't need a new GM, they need a new food service Co.! :grouchy :hp

I'm not sure about anyone else around here, but, The Dodgers are looking pretty dangerous. Penny, Lowe and Maddux at the top spots of the rotation and as Orel mentioned - all having WS rings - is sure fire positive for them. Plus, they are scoring runs like crazy and have a very good closer in Saito. I didn't like the makeup of the team at the beginning of the season and on some level, on paper, it seems a bit dysfunctional ... but, they are "clicking on all cylinders" as people like to say.
Very good team at this point.

I didn't like that trade at the time because it included Navarro.
But considering it was mostly Hendrickson for Jae Seo, it was like trading used toilet paper for a dirty diaper...regardless of which one you end up with it stinks...
