Out of the players that are now between 1800 and 2200 hits ?

Almost certainly:
Derek Jeter
Alex Rodriguez

Outside shot:
Chipper Jones
Manny Ramirez

That's all I'm drawing to mind. Vlad Guerrero might have a shot, but he's below the 1800 hits total you mentioned.

Jeter has around 41 more hits than Manny. A-Rod has around 26 fewer. Why are two "almost certainly," while the other is an "outside chance"?

Edit: Also, what about Jeff Kent? Does he have it in him?

Manny is two years older than Jeter, and three years older than ARod. Throw in the fact that Manny isn't exactly what you'd call the kind of guy who keeps himself in the best of shape, and time starts to be an issue. He's still definitely got a chance, but less of a chance than those two.

Fair enough. Manny would have to have another 5-6 solid seasons to hit 3000, and counting in the age difference, I see your point.

Manny walks too much and misses too many games due to "Manny being Manny"

still a lock for 500 homers, 600 is still possible

Chipper Jones maybe? A reach, but possible

There are currently 14 players between 1800 and 2200 hits.

Sierra (2152), Kent (2135), Piazza (2011), Alou (1963), Castilla (1880), Conine (1876), Clayton (1838), and Green (1837) are all too old and have no shot at 3000.

Jeter (2080), Ramirez (2043), Anderson (2032), A-Rod (2013), Chipper (1914), and Damon (1906) are all 34 or younger and have a decent shot at 3000 hits. They all need about 150 hits a year to reach 3000, which is achievable.

Several other players below 1800 (Andruw Jones, Vlad) could reach the mark.

If not for injuries Chipper would most certainly be on track for 3000 hits. Unfortunately, the odds are against him now. If he can find a way to stay healthy for a few more years then he will have a pretty good shot at getting 3000. He hasn't had any major degenerative injuries. It seems like he just gets several minor injuries each year that end up costing him a number of games. Considering he played 8 straight years of 150 games or more, it is possible that he will be able to stay healthy for enough years to get 3000.

I also think we can throw Johnny Damon's name in there as a possibility. He currently has 1906 hits at the age of 32.

Craig Biggio is a lock for 3000

Edit--I forgot you said between 1800 and 2100.

I think that even Manny doesnt come close to the 3,000 hit plateau, he can certainly reach the 2,000 RBI club, both I hope he reaches both. And as of A-Rod and Jeter, they can reach the 3,000 club if they stay healthy I hope.

And what about Pujols, I think he has a chance too.

If Michael Young plays all his life in Texas he is a good bet to do it in ten years more.

He is on pace for a 4th straight 200-hit season too, lets hope he is healthy too, he is a overlooked player, if it wasnt for his heroics on the All-Star game, few people know he was last year's AL Batting Champ.

Garret Anderson? Like Chipper, he has been slowed down with injuries, so I don't think he can make it.

I dont think Johnny is going to make it, he gets banged up a lot. he hasnt missed a lot of games yet, but i think it might catch up with him. I think i would still like to see him do it, but only if he came back to boston

600 homers only requires a few more strong years. I think he'll do it.

If Damon is going to make 3000 hits, it's going to be tough.
He's at 1906 now. I'm not sure he has three more strong years in him, nevermind the five or so it would take to get 3000. His body is already breaking down.

He's got 466 right now. If he finishes up with 9 more, he'll have 40 for the year and 475 overall.

He'd then need 25 HRs average over the next 5 years to do this by age 39.

I can see him, health being on his side, putting up 30-35 apiece over the next two seasons. Beyond that, he'd not another 60 HRs.

He's not quite to 1,800 hits yet, but my money says that Todd Helton will finish with over 3,000.

If he's still healthy, and the MIT, stays at Colorado.
