Javier Vazquez pitched one of the finest games in a White Sox uniform this afternoon as he went 8 innings giving up a run on 2 hits and striking out 13 as the Sox took a 7-1 decison from the slumping Toronto Blue Jays in Canada.

The only blemish what was otherwise a masterpiece today was his 5th inning,He gave up a solo homer to Troy Glaus to lead off the 5th,followed by a sharp single to Lyle Overbay, and it was like,"Here we go again..".But after Gregg Zaun walked,Vazquez hunkered down to strike out the side.

The Glaus homer in the 5th waas the 1st hit allowed by Javy in the game. The 2 hits in that inning were also the only hits Toronto would have as Vazquez was in complete control of all his pitches.

The offense backed up Javy like it has all season led by Paul Konerko's 4 RBIs and Jermaine Dye's 2 RBIs.

A great pitching performance in the clutch today, this time,by Javier Vazquez.:clapping

Today he pitched as he is capable of pitching. I would bet the threat of him being sent to the bullpen worked magic on him, that and McArthy pitching so well. Hopefully three of the other starters will get the message too, that one of them is heading to the bullpen if they dont straighten out. Going to the bullpen reduces a pitchers marketability and could prevent them from getting a big starters contract.

If thats what it takes then good. I'm not about to start feeling sorry for some guy making 8 m a year top throw a baseball once a week. If players had the clause in their contracts of no playee well/no payee there would be better ball being played on both sides of the city. Vasquez pitching like that is huge for the Sox. If their pitching staffs throw to their ability then it will be another trophy for the southsiders.

"We were singing 'Take Me Out To The Ballgame,' and it was weird seeing Javy still on the mound," Guillen joked. "It's been a while since we've seen him out there that late."

Interesting numbers on Vazquez this year.

After 60 pitches, opponents are hitting .293 off Vazquez. That number soars after 75 pitches when opponents tee off on him for a .373 average.

For me to win my bet the sox have to win 35 of their last 55 games. Thats a .635 clip. For them to do that the starters have to come up big. This is the most talented baseball team, talentwise, Ive ever seen in this city in my lifetime. So much so that even winning at a .602 clip is a dissapointment. If the pitching comes thru and they have a big August then things are rosey.

If they dont?...................:evil

I honestly couldn't believe it. The day after I just said on here that he was not an AL starter because he couldn't handle the third time through a deep line-up he pitched one of the best performances by anyone I've seen in a while. I kept waiting for him to explode again, and in the fifth I was like "yep, here's the end. Good thing for the big lead." I'm so happy he proved me wrong. Meanwhile, Contreras is sinking. A 5.12ERA the last 10 games?!

I was at that game. Vasquez was untouchable. Reed Johnson, who has an OBA of about 4.65 went 0fer. The jays and their mighty offense simply sputtered against this guy.:(
