View Full Version : Bonds Gets Ejected in Front of Home Philly Mob; Utley Jeered By Ugly Philly Crowd

There goes those obnoxious Philly fans again. Say what you will but they ARE the worst in sports. On the same night the home Philly crowd displayed itself to be unruly and obnoxious as they threw garbage on the field and chanted for their hero Barry, causing an 11 minute game delay, they followed up that poor display but continuing to chuck cups and garbage at the umpiring crew.

Only in Philly.

Earlier in the evening, the Philly mob, forever to be recalled for booing the Easter bunny and throwing snowballs at Santa, jeered and taunted Chase Utley mercilessly as he failed to continue his 35-game hitting streak against El Duque and a few Mets relievers.

Of course all baseball fans know this kind of behavior would never happen in place like St. Louis, San Francisco, Detroit, New York. Only in Philly. :grouchy

:crazy

Yup, had last night's events taken place in Philly, it'd be ALL over the news. But because this stuff is so common everywhere, it's only news when the Philly fans act out. I won't even both commenting on what a joke it is that Giants fans can be stupid enough to still be supporting Bonds in ANY manner, but the Mets fans obnoxious and classless display during Chase Utley's ninth inning at bat was ridciculous. I can tell you with utter certainty that had that been David Wright ending a 35 game hit streak and the game was in Philly, he'd have gotten a standing ovation after making his last out. :radio

So what are you saying exactly? What caused you to post this? Was there a bit of news that refered to some actions by some fans somewhere? I'm totally in the dark here, but very intrigued.

now what?

Are you taking Mets fans to task for acting like Phillies' fans?

Well that's just a tad uncalled for. Why are we "stupid" for cheering for the best player of this generation and maybe the best ever? We've been rooting for him for 14 years, and many a person (and athlete) have done much worse things than Barry is accused of doing.

Insulting people won't get you very far, buddy.

Johnny, I know you describe yourself as an ex-Philly Phanatic, but please note the following relevant facts:

Barry Bonds played at home in San Francisco vs the Colorado Rockies last night. It was then and there that he'd been ejected, for which Giants fans chase Rockies with barrage of litter (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2540248), delaying the game for 11 minutes.
The Phillies were on the road at Shea, and Utley's hit streak ends at 35 games; Phillies beat Mets (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=260804121)

I can understand Philly Phans travelling from there to Queens, as they only have NJ standing between them. Heck, even NJ Transit has a station in Philly.

Now why would Philly fans be at San Francisco for a game where Colorado is the visiting team?

If you consider a chemically enhanced player deserving of your applause, I'm sorry for you. The REAL Barry Bonds is the numbers he put up in Pittsburgh. Everything else is fraud. It's embarrassing to watch Giants fans sell out for this out and out fraud, just as it wa sto watch those marvelous Cardinals fans do the same for McGwire.

Typical New Yawker. Please reread the post. Of COURSE the Giants were in San Francisco and the Phillies in NY. God, I gave the readers here WAY too much credit before posting this.

And as a postscript, I applaud the Mets' radio team for today berating Mets fans for their abhorrent behavior last night with regard to Chase Utley. I was beginning to think I was the only one who noticed their disgusting behavior.

Theres always somebody doing something worse than you, thats no way to justify your or anybody else's actions.

NOW, someone gets it! See, the fact is this notion that Philadelphia fans are not only worse than others, but set the bar for obnoxious fan behavior is a friggin' joke. I'm not gonna go back over this stupid nonsense that keeps getting rehashed about Santa and the Easter bunny. Those who were really there know the truth. Fact is FAR worse events than the worst that has ever happened in Philly have happened in Detroit, Cleveland, and many other cities in the US. It just doesn't get the play it gets when it happens in Philly. Philly fans would NEVER have done to a David Wright, what the NY fans did to Chase Utley last night, and Barry Bonds would have been run out of this town long ago, deservingly.

Take the party out of Wrigley, and the overwhelming desire to spend like drunken Irishment away from the Red Sox, and see how fans in those cities would act. Give the Cardinals five years with ownership that doesn't give a rat's ass about winning and see how wonderful Cardinal fans would look. Curt Schilling, Scott Rolen, JD Drew, need I go on, they didn't leave because of the fans, they left because of ownership. The same thing that drives Philly fans to be as outspoken as they are. Read my tag line.

Ok, now that is just wrong. Why in the world would they pelt poor Santa? Or boo Peter Cottontail? They must have been intoxicated.

So because neither of the games were played in Philly, you're saying that they got less attention? If not, then please spell it out; I'm not much of a mind reader.

The Bonds ejection and garbage being thrown are on separate articles on ESPN's MLB page. Is that enough publicity for you?

As to the Mets radio team, which one of the FAN hosts did this?

As a lifelong Alabamian, I certainly get it! All tv or nightclub
comics have to do for cheap laughs is to utter the word
Alabama.

Alabam has citizens who are intelligent and civilized and
also has those who are stupid and ignorant. Just like
New York, California and the rest of the remaining 49.

I'm probably the only one who thinks this thread is a waste of time. I'm not sure what you are saying, and since a bunch of us don't get your point, you say

So, we're all too stupid to understand your poor writing, and we're too stupid to read your mind, and we're stupid because we don't read EVERY article about baseball that is printed everyday. Well, some of us have wives, kids, and lives outside of baseball, and don't have time to follow EVERY occurence in baseball everyday.
Can we close this thread? It's just causing ugliness.

Sweet Lou:

I agree.

John:

Can you PM me if you'd like this thread re-opened? It seems more like bashing of the Phillies and saying that other teams act just as badly.

I can't say that I'd have booed Utley, but I would be more concerned with my team winning the game than worrying about an opposing player's hit streak.

Closing.
