Ty Wigginton was placed on the DL with a broken finger, when he was hit by a pitch. This leads to speculation as to whether BJ Upton will be brought up to take Wiggintons place. Under normal times , this would be a no brainer, but since the incident in Durham involving Upton , Delmon Young and Elijah Dukes, you have to wonder. Upton has made statements since the incident and it sounds like he is trying to distance himself from the other two. I think the Rays will bring up Upton and it will be put up or shut up time for him. It will also seperate him from Young and Dukes.

Wiggy came back from the DL with a vengeance. Have they offered him a contract for next year yet?

But they better. Arguably one of the best offseason signings of any team this past winter. But he will get a lot of interest from other teams because of what he has done here. Whether the Rays will step up to the plate financially is what will determine his future.
And if it comes down to money, the Rays usually bail out of the discussion

What did Upton do in Durham? If i had to pick somebody to play for Wiggy it would be Upton

Upton will start here in 2007, it just hasn't been determined yet at what position. They are discussing SS, 3B, even OF. If it's OF, then either Baldelli or Crawford would have to be moved for a #1 SP. Wiggy has been a super utility guy here, playing a lot of different positions, and still leading the team in RBIs even after being out a month with a broken hand.

The rumors in New York are that the Mets are going to try to make a trade for Crawford, offering Lastings Milledge, Mike Pelfrey and another young pitcher. Would probably make sense for both teams. I seem to recall that when the Rays announced the signing of Wigginton, they said they had him for two years, I might be wrong. Greg Norton has said he would like to come back next year, since the Rays were the team that allowed him a chance, to get back to the big leagues. If the Rays don't have to go after signing veteran bench players like they usually do, they can concentrate on upgrading their pitching.

I can't imagine the Mets trading another young phenom to the Rays, let alone two. No chance they trade Pelfrey AND Milledge for Crawford, especially since Pedro is potentially done for his career. If this year has proven anything, pitchers are fragile (esp when they're not juicing).
As for the Rays, they should keep Wigginton as an everyday utility guy. His defense is above average at every position he plays, so he's the perfect guy to have on your team.

Wigginton is arbitration eligible, so the Rays stil have the opportunity to negotiate with him before the hearing. Norton needed to play in 2 more games to collect a $25K bonus and fell short. I wonder if he will hold that against the Rays if other teams make him an offer. I'd rather trade Upton than either Crawford or Baldelli, especially how hot Baldelli was in the last 2 months. Wait until next year again, worst team in baseball once more :grouchy

Since the Rays are "Let's Trade for More Hot Prospects" crazy, I fully expect Crawford or Baldelli to go...As for the Mets trade..Ain't gonna happen....I predicted 100 losses before the start, I hoped I was wrong.. Mid season brought some real hope.. We shudda stopped at the AS break...:noidea
So what's for next year?? They gonna repave the parking lot??
