It was mentioned on todays Rays telecast that Seth McClung was going to be brought back to the Rays, and after an appearance or two toget his feet wet, that he would be given the closers role. Dwayne Stats said that manager Joe Maddon had briefed them on that in the morning. He was the closer in Durham and has pretty good numbers. The one stat that jumped out at me was 2 bases on ball- 28 K's. One of McClungs problems has been his wildness.Maybe just knowing he only has to work one inning has changed the way he thinks.

Seth McClung made his debut as a reliever with the Rays last night. He pitched 11/3 innings and looked good. Next is whether he can handle the closing job.

David Ortiz was sure happy to see him last night and welcomed him back to the big leagues in grand fashion!

Yes he did. But Ortiz hits them off everyone.I wnt to see how he does when they bring him into actual save situations.

Minors.
He's not ready yet, and I don't think he'll ever be ready, especially in Tampa Bay.

The Rays also sent Edwin Jackson back down to learn how to be a closer. Orvella was brought up earlier in the season, and wasn't able to get the job done.
