Hi everyone - I am new to this site and would appreciate any help you might be able to give me.

I was given a babe ruth signed baseball many years ago by my grandfather.

It is signed on the sweetspot and is an official National League ball, and it says Spalding #1 on it and it has a horsehide cover.

It is the only signature on the ball and its quite clear. The ball has been kept in a safe deposit box for 35 plus years.

My grandfather was the Mayor of a city outside Boston in the early 20's and 30's...and used to go to Red Sox games - and I'm just guessing - but I suspect that he met Babe Ruth on one of his visits to Fenway park and got the baseball signed.

Any idea what year this might have been - considering the horsehide, spalding #!, etc...?

And anyone of an idea of the value of the ball?

Thanks!

Dave

Is it possible to see a scanned picture of the ball?

My daughter has a digital camera - let me see if she can get a photo that I can post.

Any idea about the era of the ball - based on the horsehide, spalding #1, etc?

And I've wondered why it would be on a "official natl league ball"

Thanks

Ruth did play for the Boston Braves his final season, and he also coached for the dodgers.
There are plenty here who are more qualified to answer to the specifics than I, but Spalding is a big named company, and a Ruth signature is among the most valuable, for obvious reasons. Several thousand dollars for a verified signature.

Thanks - my grandfather was the mayor in the 1930's so the time frame might work for the Braves or Dodgers. How do I go about getting it verifide authentic?

Post a couple picture if you can first.

Then if the feedback is good (should be) get it authenticated at PSA/DNA. It will cost some $$ ($150-$250), but is well worth it in the long run if you ever want to sell it down the road.

Just looking through some auction catalogs Ruth SS balls go for $4K-$20K

Depends of how many players and condition.

Post a couple pictures.

Key people to look for McKechnie, Lombardi, Vander Meer, Lloyd Waner (1941)
