Lee Traded to Rangers

ESPN has a report on their site saying that Carlos Lee and minor leaguer Nelson Cruz will be traded today to the Texas Rangers for pitcher Francisco Cordero and OFers Kevin Mench and Laynce Nix. A formal announcement has not been made.

Better than nothing I guess. I like Mench a lot so thats good, offensively probably not near Carlos but a better fielder. Cordero will need some work but if he can be anywhere near his '04 numbers that would be awesome. Melvin hasn't led us wrong yet so I'll place my faith in him. Sad to see Carlos go, but thats baseball when you're a fan of a small market team.

I gotta say that I'm very optimistic about this trade. Carlos wasn't coming back and they got a few players in Cordero and Mench that could be impact players in the near future. Kudos to the front office for working hard to make a decision and not letting things just slide. :clapping

I've been reserved to the fact that the team was going to be getting rid of "El Caballo" at the end of the year so I was happy we got something for him. I'm hopeful that Mench can be a handy (though unspectacular) kind of player as he had been with Texas but Cordero does very little to calm my fears about the teams closer situation. Lets hope he can prove me wrong!

Yeah we did, but as I said in my post we were likely to lose Lee at the seasons end so to get at least something for him (even if all we got of value was Mench) rather than letting him walk at the the end of the year and get nothing for him.

We definately could have gotten more for him, you should be happy you got a player of his quality whilst giving up so little!

Well it was either this or not get anything at all. Mench has already had a big impact in Sundays game. Plus, the Rangers loose him at the end of the year and if they don't get to the playoffs they just waisted posible traid bait for any off season trade. Nelson Cruzz wasnt bad for them though, I can't wait to see him play.

Anouther point is that Carlos isn't off limits to the Brewers in free agency. If the deals are better in Milwaukee (although very unlikely with out a freeken salary cap) he could still be in a Brewers Uniform next season.
