I wanted to PM whitesoxnut, but it wouldn't allow me, so this is for anyone.......

Can a digital Hi-8 camera upload video to a computer, or do I have to go with a MiniDV? Or what other formats are good? I am pretty good with electronics and computers, but with all of the different types of formats it creates a lot of confusion.

Also, what format or type of camera will allow you to connect directly to a laptop and provide decent video? I've used my webcam to do this, but it's not very fluid. Does it depend upon the number of frames per second? If so, what should I look for in this type of camera?

Thanks!

You can drag Hi-8 video into a computer with a capture card.

I webcam is more than likely capturing at 15 fps. 30 fps is the minimum requirement.

Any type of digital camera with a firewire will allow you to directly drag video into a computer given the computer has a firewire connection.

GFK, what frames/second do camcorders typically record at?

30 frames per second is the normal mode. If you have quicktime, it will tell you what speed the clip was recorded at.
