Suddenly very short of healthy infielders, the Brewers traded left-hander Jorge De La Rosa to Kansas City this evening for veteran infielder Tony Graffanino.

Graffanino, a 34-year-old veteran who can play third base, shortstop and second base, will join the Brewers for their game Wednesday against Pittsburgh. In 69 games with Kansas City, he was batting .268 with five homers and 32 RBI.

I don't see much in this deal for the Royals. De La Rosa in a career of 95 IP's has an ERA north of 6. He strikes about one an inning which is outstanding but walks about the same which is horrendous.

De La Rosa has the potenial to be a left handed 94 m.p.h. starter with good movement. He does have injury and control problems but he still is very young.

Graffanino is old, but a somewhat dependable hitter. He doesn't have much power, but he's a solid defender although he doesn't have much range. Odds are he won't be around next year, but who knows.

Considering what the Nationals got for 2 relief pitchers who's potenial together doesn't add up to Jorge's , I think we got ripped off, and would have been better served just bringing someone up from the minors, and trying Corey Hart at third, and 'rillo at second.

The season is over at this point anyway, trading away a pitching prospect with huge potenial I think was done is haste to fill a gap that really doesn't matter in the long run.

I hope this lopsided trade was done either with future consideration going to the crew or to settle a past one because it seems that Jorge's upside would be much more than Grafanino's.
