I hope this trade is thought out a little first. Tobegin with the Sox are one of the highest, if not the highest, run scoring team in MLB. If you trade McArthy and others to get this guy you are giving up exactly what it is they need...........pitching. And in return were getting in the field already what we have, an average if not mediocre defensive left fielder.. Yes you are getting a home run threat with Soriano but we already have home run threats, our problems are defensive and pitching. Most of all pitching!
I just hope they are thinking this thru. Im sure they wouldnt bring in a cancer but still you are rolling the dice with midseason trades regarding clubhouse morale. The Sox have to be careful here.

Kenny already talked about this a little and said nobody on the Sox major league roster would be used for trade bait.
If they can manage it somehow and get Soriano here, it will only make this club better. Soriano puts up huge numbers.

31 HRS, 62 RBIs; something about that tells me he only hits HRs and is not a big run producer.
Soriano is an All-Star but McCarthy is one of the jewels of the White Sox. They do not need more hitting, they need better relief pitching. The strength of the White Sox is starting pitching; next year they are going to need McCarthy.
Maybe for someone the Sox can keep beyond this year, not for a two month rental.

I think that the Sox are using the Soriano trade talk into scaring the Tigers into making an unreasonable deal.
I believe K-Dubb will not listen to any offers that include McCarthy. He will be in the rotation next season. The kid's only 22 years old with a bright future ahead of him.

.
hes having a very good year considering the ballpark he is in. and 31/62 isnt surprising considering he is a leadoff hitter and is generally hitting after the pitcher and a crappy #8 hitter.

I'd agree with this statement. Ozzie Guillen seems to believe that my Tigers would have to at least give up either Justin Verlander or Joel Zumaya to swing a deal for Soriano. While I believe he's wrong about those two, we'd still have to give up a lot of talent from our farm system. I think the thing that is holding up a Soriano-to-Detroit trade is the Nationals insistence that they recieve Humberto Sanchez AND Cameron Maybin in any trade, and that's simply too much to give up for a rental player who most likely won't re-sign with us anyways. I think the Sox are trying to make the Tigers stand pat regarding a big trade, and by throwing their name into the Soriano sweepstakes they are driving the price to a beyond-ridiculous range.

I concur..with Racosun..at this point, the need for the Tigers to swing a
'big' trade, isn't as great..with Young back, and looking like he can hit
somewhat..and staying out of Leyland's dog house..if not, Young is GONE !
and the Tigers being almost 8 games ahead of the Sox..and 9 and one half
games ahead of the Twins..makes going after the big trade, not as vital
if the club was say, 2 games ahead..of course, I welcome any chance to
improve the club, if the deal is right..and the Tigers don't mortage their
future..It seems to me, the Sox needs is pitching..both another starter
and a relief guy....instead of someone like soriano, who's at best a
rental player, who'll jump ship at the conclusion of the season...

I'm not big on Soriano. He strikes me as not being much of a team player, and by the way, he is a defensive liability and doesn't know it. He wants to dictate where he plays and is a sulker. Much like Shea Hillenbrand.

Two things:
First, I don't get this trade for Chicago. They have plenty of offense already, highlighted by a threesome that's as scary as any in the league. This strikes me as gluttony and getting away from the shrwed dealing and emphasis on pitching that was behind last year's team.
Second - my thoughts on Soriano. I loved Soriano when he was with the Yankees. He does have flaws in his game, but he's a good guy and he brings a lot of energy to the table. He usually batted at the top of the lineup for the Yanks and was often a sparkplug because of his great combination of speed and power. However, there are only so many sliders down and well out of the strikezone that I can stand watching Soriano swing and miss on in the postseason. Aside from his fielding, his biggest detriment might be that he doesn't seem to improve upon his weaknesses. He is what he is, and that is very good.

I see some logic to this trade. There just isn't much pitching out there so Williams is going in the other direction to see if the Sox can just hit their way to the playoffs.
What I don't see is the sufficient talent in the White Sox system to entice the Nats to part with Soriano unless McCarthy is part of the deal. And Williams has said he won't part with McCarthy.

Unfortunatly Ozzie has been playing around with Vasquez in the rotation about 4 weeks to long and it will be difficult for Brandon to get up to speed as a starter right away. I see Vasquez as a guy that just cant be relied upon. Look were almost 2/3s into the season and if a guy hasnt come around yet he aint going to. I think Williams would be nuts to trade McCarthy, Soriano is not worth it.
