I was just curious if keeping your head on the ball and trying to watch it hit the bat actually helps with mechanics as well as making better contact. It seems to me like if you keep your head on the ball and correctly use your hips then they will open at the right time and not prematurely resulting in loss of power.

you posted a pic of bonds with his head on the ball. what are you trying to show about the pic?? something about his hips?? or just the fact that bonds keeps his head down on the ball??

Head up causes the hips to open prematurely. This causes loss of power. If you look at pics of the better hitters their heads are all on the ball. I'm not sure about actually seeing the bat hit the ball. If you calculate the amount of time it takes for the ball to travel a few inches I am not sure our brains work this fast.

Well you can have the greatest mechanics in the world, but they won't do a darn thing if you don't know where the ball is.:)
