I was just thinking about a way to improve the lineup when I had a good idea. The league is very deep in 1b and for the cardinals to aquire a good 1b would be easier than a good outfielder.....My proposal would be.... move pujols to the outfield and trade for a 1b. Im not sure if would wanna take this chance and ruin something with pujols but maybe it could work!!!! I mean we could trade for a good first basemen ALOT easier than a good outfielder.. thoughts????

Who were some of the first basemen you were thinking of? There's 3 outfield spots and only one 1st base, so there has to be more available for outfield. Besides, Pujols is doing great at first. I understand your reasoning, though.

Pujols speed and agility are built for corner infield positions. I think he will go down in history as one of the greatest 1Bman to play the game. Leave him there. There are possibilities for the outfield. Abreu is said to be on the market, as well as Soriano. In the off season, there will be even more. Plus, I really don't think the lineup needs to be tinkered with all that much. They went through a bit of a slump offensively in June, but have won 7 straight with good pitching and hitting. If Jim keeps improving with Rolen, Pujols and Eckstein doing what they are doing ... I like our offensive prowess. Encarnacion is holding his own right now, too. It isn't Reggie Sanders like, but it is decent enough for now. They are still towards the top of the league in run scored per game, so, I think the offense is fine. I'm more concerned about the late relief - especially Looper. He has been good this year ... but ... I still get an uneasy feeling when he steps on the mound. I think Izzy will be fine. When Mulder comes back I would be in favor of Reyes in middle relief, with Wainright and Hancock.

I think Albert is best served where he is at, especially from a historical perspective.

it's an interesting idea but i don't think the team would want to mess with the cornerstone of the francise if they absolutely didn't have to. plus, what about albert's foot/heel thing that he has? is that something that is cleared up and gone for good or is it something chronic that could flare up at any time? if it's a chronic problem, the smart thing would be to leave him at first.

It's something to think about, but to me, the risk of putting him in the outfield and possibly increasing the chance of injury along with possibly shortening his career is not worth the reward.
