Last year little league championship, bottom of last inning with home team up, bases loaded, kids team up by two, the count is 2-2. Imagine how a father feels when your 12yo saves the big game like this.:crazy Hope its OK to post this, I want to try out new video streamer.....
I removed the video link. The free video streamer has links to XXX porn on it. I didnt know at first as they dont tell you. I suppose i can look foward to all kinds of filth being E-mailed to me now.:grouchy

If you play long enough you get multiple opportunities to "be that guy". It's great he gets to experience what it feels like to come through.
And it's a great feeling for Dad too.

Whitesoxnut, PM me if you need ideas on how to post it elsewhere. It would be fun to see that.
Those moments are especially great for kids who haven't hit much and get put in the outfield because the manager believes that they're less likely to be needed (i.e., screw up) there.
A couple of war stories. We had a great kid ("SB") on our 11-12 y/o team this year who'd never played organized ball and, cuz his parents were from India, didn't have a parent who could teach him the game. (His Dad loves cricket though, so the kid had a pretty good swing.) We're playing the first place team, up by one run in the last inning, and the other team loads the bases. The next batter cracks a shot through the right side and it looks like a two-run single and game over for them. But SB charged in, fielded it cleanly, and gunned the very surprised batter out at first base -- and no runs score -- and, indeed, it's game over for us. (Here's the clip, poorly filmed by me.)

Dead, unbelieving silence from both sides as everyone realized what he'd done, and then our side just erupted. (Kudos to the first baseman for being alert enough to cover the bag.) We had to explain to his dad what he'd done.
One that I didn't film (for reasons I'll explain) came last year, my son's first year on the team. He was the youngest player on the team and largely relegated to right field, where he played well and continued to improve, particularly with his throwing. In the semifinal game, our 'stars' weren't playing well and we were down 6-1 in the second inning, with the other team continuing to rally and a runner on second base with two outs. By coincidence, I was standing down the right field chatting with a friend. The batter knocked a solid single to right field and the game looked like it was 7-1 and pretty much over as my son came in to get the ball and the second baseman came out to call for him to throw the ball in to him. Forgetting my camera, I screamed, "Charge it and go home!", and my son did that, and threw a line drive strike on the fly to the catcher, who placed the tag on a very surprised runner. Inning over. We came back to win 11-8, and won the championship the next day. It's moments like that which can redeem an otherwise disappointing personal season. Okay, my brag is done. :D

OK, the hosting service wont let me re-upload the same file so I had to recompress to MPG, from WMV, to change the file size so the streamer wont reject a re-upload. They make a big deal about not posting porn and yet when I posted it originally there was a link on the page to oral....you know what. Anyway, if i can make it work, the catch is worth sitting thru once. The kid saved the game with a Willie Mays special. And not just any game, it was the championship!
I was busy working two video cameras and didnt even realize my boy was in center field until after the catch. Then I couldnt help myself, I ran out onto the field screaming, "thats my son". There have been times his hitting just isnt there. This year I'm having a lot of problems with his hitting mechanics and its frustrating. But I have one rule I used both as a coach and now as a father. No matter what the child does or doesnt do my first job is to encourage and build confidence.
Ever since this catch the kid has been a natural CF, "actually can play any position including pitch and catch", but he is a natural CF. Its only very rarely Ive seen a boy his age get the jumps that he does on a ball. OK, here it is. The catch that saved the championship. If the porn links continue I'm going to have to delete the file again and maybe someone can give me another option for free streaming.
OK, here it is ................sorry removed again, the filthy links cant be removed. if anyone else has a streaming option I'd sure like to hear about it. I had to get rid of this filthy web streamer.

I had a right fielder this year who only batted .200. He was slower than the other outfielders and I had players on the bench who could hit better. The reason he played? He was able to come up with unbelievable picks from RF. He scored three 9-3 picks this year. Never had three in one season before.

With kids its the little things that win baseball games. For instance, I'm a fanatic both for pitchers knowing how to keep base runners off-balance and unable to steal on them, and also, for base runners to be able to read opposing pitchers moves and "be able" to steal. When you can prevent BBs and singles from automatically becoming doubles and triples thru stealing, AND, when you can turn them into them when your on the base paths, its a huge edge.
I teach kids/pitchers to control the tempo of the game and mix up their stretch times, to double or even triple look a runner back, to step off the rubber suddenly and try and get the base runner to break, to develop a quick pitch to home out of the stretch....ect
Its the "little things" that give an edge. For instance tonight the opposing pitcher, after getting the 2nd strike, and if the count was 1-2 or 2-2, he'd automatically come in with a change up. I warned the kids about that and a few of them hit the change up well because they were laying for it.
Another big edge, even with young kids, is being able to bunt. I started my kid bunting since he first picked up a bat. Tonight he got another base hit on a bunt because the first thing he looks for is how far back the 3rd baseman is playing. And he laid down a perfect one, then, with his knowledge of reading pitchers and taking bases he ended up stealing 2nd, 3rd, and made it home on a grounder. That's how you turn "nothings" into runs.;)

You should be able to click the thumbnail, press play in the video share window, and windows media on your computer should prompt and play the file. You can also checkmark the top left of the thumbnail,
"download" and "play" should highlight in the top controls, and from there clicking play should open Windows media and it should play. The other option is to click download and when the file manager screen opens up click "savegame" file and windows will prompt you to either open the file in memory or actually download it to computer hard drive. Just clicking "open" works fine.

I went ahead I signed up for a free account to try to figure this out. I'm still not able to get it. I think these options your getting are because you "own" the link. Try copying the file to the "Hosted" folder then posting that url.

What an awesome feeling. I think I heard my daughter in the stands. She's her brothers biggest fan. I asked him the other day of he heard her sreaming for him in the stands. He looked at me like I had to be kidding and said, "yeah, she's pretty loud".
Great catch!!
