I've started to notice lately the exagerated lean back Andrew Jones has been using in his swing lately, especially since he's been playing in SD the last two nights and tonight just set the record for longest homerun at Petco park ever at over 450 ft!!!
Can anyone get some clips of AJ off of sportscenter or something? this guy has been absolutely gross when it comes to power lately, but there are things that stick out in his swing that I'd like to look at more in depth, and i'm not the best at getting clips yet.

Sounds like a before and after clip would be interesting.

wow, i'm so happy that all the smart people with clips could help me out on this one.
Seriously, hahaha, his freakin family didn't know how to spell the name correctly and i'm more worried about the swing anyway.
i mean, if i mispelled a more obvious word it may have been somewhat funny, but a name? How many spellings are there for most out there anyway, i'm sorry i don't pour over his baseball cards like all you other children,,,
I'm much more interested in how he hit an absolute 450ft bomb while falling on his ass.
I've already got a thought or two on it, but i'd like to confirm it with some clips, if you've got 'em, put 'em up, if not, what's the point?

Who does ANDREW Jones play for?
Whom does Andrew Jones play for?
Or even: For whom does Andrew Jones play?
If you want to get technical. Hahaha :D

A couple years back he widened up his stance and eliminated his stride. A Pujols-like approach if you will. Allows him to see the ball longer before committing, stays balanced better and doesn't get out front as much as he used to.
Early in the season he was hittin' bombs. Then he kind of went into a funk. Seems like he's now pressin' for homers a bit, with an exaggerated uppercut. Some of the hacks he's been taking when he's sittin' dead red have been outright ferocious. What was the count on that 453 foot bomb? Jumped out of his shoes for sure.

go there and click on "AndrUw's ;) big blast" -- its only the front view though.
And here's a shot of his July 9th bomb.

Don't worry about it, I'm still trying to figure out why people come to Baseball 101 instead of their usual forums of current events and league discussions, and flame on names instead of give or correct advice.

He stode on this swing, it's in that clip

he was jumping out of his shoes all night, not just on this pitch, and i'm almost certain it was a 2strike pitch

yup, that's the swing i was really looking at, but it does show the view from the pitcher and from the opposing batters box, unfortunately MLB uses the video you can't save off the site.
about the swing though: the big thing that i wonder about is why that back knee of his keeps heading for the ground? His back foot also doesn't seem to rotate to a weightless postion, and after contact he puts the weight back on it even though the foot as moved and the resulting falling down that we keep seeing.

last I saw him, his adjustment was a widened stance with just a pick up and put down timing mechanism.

Then he's pressing more than I thought.

I know. That blows.

I have no idea why his entire backside collapses like that. Perhaps that is just the final result, post contact. I'd love to see a side shot right at contact to see where he is. Him putting weight back on the back foot is most likely him just regaining his balance and that motion comes off as awkward. You're right. We need a side clip.
Here's a dude that ended up on his back knee quite often.

I have no idea why his entire backside collapses like that. How about more reactive strength in muscles creating ballistic movement than those providing functional stability?

Must be the case.
Tonight on his double to center, he actually ended up on his back knee just after contact.
And on his second homer you could really see he didn't rotate on the ball of his foot, he was literally on his ankle with his foot turned sideways on the ground.
What's up with that?

Classic Chan Ho...missing his spot by at least a foot
Can any of the swing doctors describe what's going on here? The kiddie version is preferred ;)
