Carpenter tough as nails
By Conor Nicholl / MLB.com
Chris Duncan's two-run homer in the third inning was enough of a cushion for Chris Carpenter, who twirled a two-hit shutout to lead the Cardinals over the Dodgers. Juan Encarnacion also homered, while David Eckstein contributed four singles.
